Job summary

Drexel Heights Fire District seeks a Fire Chief to serve as the District's Chief Administrator, directing all operations and activities to protect lives and property from fire and life safety hazards. Appointed by the Board, the Chief is the liaison between staff and the Board and oversees budgeting, staffing and long-term programs.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of management techniques and applying them.
• Ability to integrate statutes, rules and regulations governing Fire District operations.
• Ability to think clearly during emergencies and non-emergency situations.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.
• Confidentiality and calm under stress.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, supervise and evaluate Operations, Communications and Administration.
• Establish procedures and guidelines for district activities per Board directives.
• Plan and implement programs; review performance and improve efficiency.
• Prepare and present annual budget; oversee equipment specifications.
• Respond to alarms and direct on-scene activities when required.
• Serve as liaison between District employees and the Board.
• Hire, promote and terminate employees as Chief personnel officer.
• Prepare monthly Board reports and financial listings.
• Develop long-term programs in administration, risk management and fire prevention.
• Consult with Board on public safety and fire code matters.
