Job summary

County Emergency Communications is seeking fire dispatchers to coordinate responses to fires, rescues, and hazardous conditions. You will document reports, verify locations, and alert responding units while maintaining clear radio communications.

This position requires a high school diploma (or GED) and comfort with computers, maps, and dispatch software. Certification or EMS dispatch training may be required for certain assignments, with opportunities for ongoing training and development.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; some roles accept equivalent credentials.
• Experience with fire communications training or dispatch certification may be required for certain assignments.
• Must be comfortable using computer systems, maps, and radio communication.

Responsibilities

• Receive and document reports of fires, rescues, alarms, and hazardous conditions
• Verify incident locations, access information, and reported risks
• Alert stations and dispatch apparatus using approved response assignments
• Monitor radio channels, unit availability, and incident status
• Relay information about occupants, hazards, and changing conditions
• Process requests for additional resources through established procedures
• Coordinate mutual-aid communications when assigned
• Record dispatch times, unit movements, and significant incident updates
