Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Fire Detection Inspector 3 to perform routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on electrical, sprinkler, and life-safety product lines. The role requires handling low voltage wiring, using laptops, and maintaining an organized inspection schedule.

Ideal candidates have 3–10 years in low voltage systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

  • 3–10 years of low voltage electrical and life-safety systems experience.
  • Ability to perform physical labor to include lifting 50–70 lbs.
  • Flexible work hours including weekends and travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record meeting company requirements.
  • Able to obtain any required licenses per codes.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect electrical, sprinkler or suppression life-safety lines and similar products from competitors.
  • Work with low voltage wiring and devices; operate laptop for service Acknowledgements.
  • Follow a structured inspection schedule and input/archive documents.
  • Complete inspections on time and perform related duties as assigned.

What You Will Do

Inspectors are responsible for conducting routine inspections, testing, service, and preventative maintenance on Electrical, Sprinkler or Suppression life safety product lines as well as similar competitive manufacturers’ product lines. Work with low voltage wiring and associated devices for the operation of low voltage equipment. Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices such as laptop computers and/or hard copy. Follow and maintain a highly structured inspection schedule. Input, retrieve and archive inspection documents via laptop computer. Complete assigned inspections on time. Perform other duties as assigned.

How You Will Do It

Some documented experience in low voltage electrical systems. We will train new hire.

Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals. We will train new hire.

Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.

Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems and performing necessary small repairs.

Required Qualifications
  • Three to ten years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems and Fire and /or Life Safety Systems experience required.
  • Demonstrates an aptitude for troubleshooting systems.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual and sometimes difficult position such as climbing ladders, scaffolding and high lift equipment, working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends to meet customer requirements.
  • Willing to travel out of town including overnight lodging.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Self-starter that can work without supervision.
  • Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
  • Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
  • Able to obtain and retain any licenses that are required by National, State and Local codes.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the Inspector Entrée Course (Electrical or Sprinkler).
  • Achieve NICET Level II certification after 1 year on the job.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with hand tools and multi-meter usage.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, programs schematics and operational/product manuals.
  • 1-3 years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems preferred.
  • NICET certification preferred.
Hiring Hourly Range

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26.54 - $36.49 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
