Job summary

County Emergency Communications is seeking Fire Dispatchers to coordinate responses to fires, rescues, and hazardous conditions from a centralized communication center. You will receive incident information, alert appropriate resources, and maintain continuous contact with responding crews.

This role requires organized information handling, precise data entry, and clear radio communication. Schedule and staffing may include overnight shifts, weekends, and overtime during major incidents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some employers provide entry-level training.
• Comfort with computer systems, accurate data entry, maps, and radio communication.
• Fire dispatch certification or EMS/incident-management training may be required for certain assignments.

Responsibilities

• Receive and document reports of fires, rescues, alarms, and hazardous conditions.
• Verify incident locations, access information, and reported risks; alert stations and dispatch units.
• Monitor radio channels, unit availability, and incident status; coordinate resources as needed.
• Record dispatch times, unit movements, and significant updates.
• Process requests for additional resources through established procedures; coordinate mutual aid.
