Job summary

City of Flagler Beach is seeking a Fire Chief responsible for the safety of Fire Department personnel and the administrative management and operational control of the City’s Fire Department.

The role requires extensive leadership, budgeting, and interagency coordination, with duties spanning fire prevention, EMS, and emergency management. A Bachelor’s degree and ten years of firefighting experience (five in command) are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Public Safety, Business Administration or related field.
• Ten years firefighting experience with five years supervisory/command experience.
• Firefighter II, EMT and CPR certification and EVOC certification.
• Florida Driver’s license (Class D) required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety of all Fire Department personnel through leadership and training.
• Manages daily operations of department, including personnel, facilities, and equipment.
• Identifies issues with fire prevention, fire suppression, and EMS.
• Develops solutions to improve operations and effectiveness.
• Coordinates activities with other City Department Directors.
• Develops recruiting, retaining, and promotion programs to maintain trained personnel.
• Prepares and manages an annual budget for personnel, operations, training, equipment, and supplies.
• Communicates with area and regional public safety officials.
• Meets with officials, community leaders, and the public regarding department activities.
• Performs other related duties as required by the City Manager.
