Under the Fire Chief, you will supervise staff, ensure contract manning, enforce discipline, and align actions with departmental goals while maintaining high standards.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Five (5) years full-time firefighting experience or three (3) years ARFF experience with at least one (1) year as Fire Officer.
  • US Citizen with GED or High School Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license and driving history acceptable to the customer.
  • Ability to pass TSA fingerprint and background investigations.
  • Know and understand fire suppression, prevention, and combat (tactical) techniques as applied to aircraft.
  • Must meet local standards pertaining to qualifications and training.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising day-to-day ARFF functions, developing staff to a high degree of competence, and overseeing the assignment of subordinates to include maintaining airport contract minimum manning requirements.
  • Enforcing discipline, good order, and the highest standards of personal and unit probity.
  • Analyzing problems, identifying solutions and implementing recommendations in support of Aviation Department goals, policies and procedures.

Job description

Rural Metro Fire is seeking a full-time Fire Captain - Airportin Des Moines, IA, witha passion for aviation firefighting and a demonstrated commitment to cultivating a positive, collaborative work environment. Competitive pay and benefits package is offered!

Under general direction of the Fire Chief, the Fire Captain, supervises, assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for controlling and extinguishing fires; rescuing persons endangered by aircraft crash and fire or structural fires; preventing fire by reducing or eliminating potential fire hazards; responding to and providing assistance for medical aid calls, vehicle accidents, and Hazmat incidents on airport grounds.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience Necessary
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Minimum five (5) years full time firefighting experience or three (3) years of ARFF experience with at least one (1) year as a Fire Officer
  • US Citizen with GED or High School Diploma
  • Valid drivers' license and driving history acceptable to the customer.
  • Ability to pass U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) fingerprint and background investigations.
  • Know and understand fire suppression, prevention, and combat (tactical) techniques as it applies to aircraft.
  • Must meet local standards pertaining to qualifications and training.
Certifications & Licenses
  • Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 and 300.
  • Must be certified as an NFPA 1001 Firefighter II (State / IFSAC / Pro-Board)
  • Must be certified to the NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials-Operations (State / IFSAC / Pro-Board)
  • Must be certified as an NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter (State / IFSAC / Pro-Board) or completion of an FAA 40-hour approved course with current annual burn.
  • Must be certified as an Iowa State EMT or higher certification at time of hire. Must maintain the EMS certification throughout term of employment.
  • Current AHA CPR (Professional Rescuer Level)

All candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment and annual physical exam, drug test and extensive background check.
