Job summary

SVI Trucks in Fort Collins, CO seeks a Fire Apparatus Designer to design bodies and assemblies for emergency response vehicles. You will develop 2D/3D models, create construction documentation, and assist on the shop floor as needed.

The role requires knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other CAD tools, strong mechanical aptitude, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. On-site work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Some knowledge of heavy/medium duty truck layout and builds.
  • Able to contribute in a fast paced/team atmosphere.
  • Able to problem solve and learn new skills.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen, physical agility test and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret measurements with tape, calipers, and protractor.
  • Create and follow assembly instructions, drawings and blueprints; convert measurements between imperial and metric.
  • Model using 2D/3D CAD software and publish construction documentation.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to support builds.
  • Maintain proficiency with Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.

Description

SVI Trucks builds custom fire apparatus, including rescue trucks, hazmat units, command vehicles, fire engines, tanker trucks, law enforcement vehicles and more. Every truck that leaves the factory is truly one-of-a-kind thanks to innovative and meticulous construction.

We are looking for an energetic, self-starting Fire Apparatus Designer for our Trucks division. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a trusted, well respected, family-owned business that is continually expanding.

As a Fire Apparatus Designer, you will be responsible for designing component and body assemblies used in the manufacture of emergency response apparatus ranging from utility rescues to heavy rescues and fire engines.

The fire apparatus designer will be required to proficiently design fire apparatus bodies and accessories utilizing 2D and 3D modeling software and publish construction documentation with Adobe Acrobat. The position requires on property work attendance. Occasionally individuals will be required to assist on the manufacturing floor and thus shall be capable of extended periods of standing, stooping, bending, and balancing. Individuals should have manual dexterity, fine manipulation, and the ability to reach with hands and arms and lift-up to 50 pounds max. Use of ladders and rolling staircases included in equipment to complete job duties.

Essential Functions:
  • Accurately read and interpret a measuring tape, digital and/or dial calipers, angle finder and protractor.
  • Create and/or follow written assembly instructions, drawings, and blueprints. With knowledge of fraction to decimal and imperial to metric conversions.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling software, preferably Autodesk Inventor; Solid Works and Pro E also acceptable.
  • Knowledge of 2D CAD software, preferably Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, primarily Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate with others to provide necessary details.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

  • Learn and apply valuable skills and gain useful knowledge.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical agility test and criminal background check.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must be able to follow directions and pay attention to detail.

Additional skills and experience that will be considered:
  • Associate degree in CAD.
  • Basic to extensive knowledge for GD&T.
  • At least one year of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in customization of both automotive and heavy-duty vehicles regarding the body, chassis, or cab interior.
  • Understanding of low- and high-pressure air systems.
  • Knowledge or understanding of water pump plumbing.
  • Understanding of RV or residential plumbing.

$23.00 - $28.00/Hour DOE

Hours:

7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday
