The Christ Hospital Health Network is seeking an experienced technician to oversee inspection, testing and maintenance of fire alarm and water-based protection systems at our Cincinnati facilities.
You will perform periodic maintenance on extinguishers, exit lighting and FLS barriers, coordinate with contractors, and keep accurate testing records. A strong knowledge of NFPA codes and Joint Commission requirements is essential.
Oversee the inspection, testing and maintenance of installed fire protection systems including but not limited to fire alarm systems and water-based fire protection systems. Also conduct inspections and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers, exit lighting, fire and life safety (FLS) system smoke and fire barriers including open protective doors. Assuring compliance with hospital policies, local, state, and federal codes.
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate’s Degree in a technical area preferred. Understanding of fire alarm systems, water-based fire protection systems work through on the job or specialized training.
Years of Experience: Minimum 5 years with experience in the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire and life safety systems.
Required Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of life safety requirements of the Joint Commission (TJC); familiarity with regulations of the Fire Code, Building Code, the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) and NFPA standards for fire protection systems (i.e., NFPA 13, 25, 72). Able to work with hand tools, handle fire equipment, operate fire protection systems. Able to proficiently use safety equipment and instruments. Able to read and write legibly; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
