Overview

The Fire Alarm Service Technician 1 is responsible for performing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and service of fire alarm systems to uphold safety and compliance standards. The Fire Alarm Service Technician 1 will work under the guidance of senior technicians or supervisors to develop expertise in fire alarm systems and related technologies.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  1. Perform routine inspections and functional testing of fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA 72 and local standards.
  2. Test and troubleshoot initiating devices, notification appliances, and system components, addressing malfunctions or deficiencies.
  3. Assist in inspections and testing of interconnected systems, including elevators, HVAC shutdown, and fire doors.
  4. Document all service activities, including inspection results and repairs, and complete testing reports with noted deficiencies.
  5. Communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers and account managers for accurate quoting of recommended repairs.
  6. Collaborate with senior technicians and supervisors to learn advanced fire alarm system technologies and best practices.
  7. Assist in the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of fire alarm systems, and determine materials needed for repairs.
  8. Respond promptly to service calls and emergency situations, adhering to safety protocols and maintaining compliance standards.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Minimum of high school degree and three years of related experience or two years technology degree and one year of related experience.
  2. NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level I or pass NICET I exam within 90 days of employment.
Additional Requirements
  1. Ability to obtain US Clearance, minimum DoD Secret Clearance.
  2. Position is subject to an additional customer background check.
  3. This position will require up to 15% travel throughout the United States.
  4. Above average level of attention to detail and professional work ethic.
  5. Commitment to excellence and a high quality of work.
  6. Knowledge of NFPA 72 and OSHA Requirements.
  7. Ability to function in a controlled, effective manner under stress.
  8. Strong desire to continuously increase your skill set and take on more responsibility.
  9. Above average communication skills with customers, other field personnel, office staff, and sub-contractors.
Physical Requirements
  1. Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
  2. Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  3. Work at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  4. Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  5. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  6. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  7. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  8. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  9. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  10. See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  11. Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  12. Work overtime as directed by supervisor.
  13. Must be able to pass a background check.
  14. Must be able to pass random drug screening.
  15. Must have valid driver's license, good driving records to operate a MC Dean vehicle as part of this job requirement.
  16. Must consistently report to work on time, work well with other employees to accomplish a common goal, and maintain a safe work environment.
  17. Must have a reliable means of transportation to arrive on job sites which vary based on the customer.
