Fire Alarm Technician-1

THE POSITION IN A NUTSHELL Sciens Building Solutions is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Technician with programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting capabilities. This position will work closely with sales, field project teams, and clients to ensure sound design, seamless installation, and commissioning of our fire alarm solutions. It requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and effective human relations.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (and doing well!)

• Review system layouts and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales for successful project execution.
• Produce field surveys and daily project logs.
• Program and commission complex fire alarm systems for final acceptance by customers and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
• Produce detailed commissioning and inspection reports per NFPA.
• Handle complex troubleshooting and achieve effective resolution.
• Deliver projects on schedule and within cost budgets.
• Program systems via laptop computers.
• Assist in oversight of project inventory and vehicle assets.
• Provide support, guidance, and expertise to other technicians.
• Manage job scheduling and progress efficiently with a focus on quality.
• Demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units to customers, explaining proper use and how to respond to system signals.
• Comply with industry standard procedures and Sciens safety programs and policies.

What We Like About You

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of experience as a technician in the fire‑life safety industry.
• Ability to program and commission mid‑range fire alarm systems independently.
• Ability to terminate fire alarm control units and field equipment with minimal supervision.
• Ability to communicate and coordinate with onsite contractors.
• Intermediate understanding of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting of circuit opens, shorts, or ground conditions.
• Intermediate computer knowledge related to software installation.
• Ability to demonstrate proper operation of equipment and control units.
• Intermediate knowledge of NFPA 72, Section 907 of the International Fire Code, Section 909 of the International Building Code, and Article 760 of NFPA 70.
• State, local, contract, and/or product specific certifications as required by the business.
• NICET I certification.
• Knowledge of state fire procedures, filing, and requirements.
• Ability to read fire system design drawings.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines with urgency.
• Ability to work independently with some supervision.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
• Proficient in issue resolution.
• Excellent organizational, decision‑making, and communication skills.
• Physically fit to perform demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, standing, walking, and occasional overnight travel.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Fire alarm experience preferred.
