Job summary

The Fire Alarm Technician at Thompson Safety will install, test, and service fire alarm systems at customer sites. You will respond to emergencies, inspect life safety systems, and document work with reports.

You’ll troubleshoot faults, perform upgrades, and coordinate with customers and contractors to ensure safe, compliant installations. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, read schematics, and possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; fire alarm certifications are strongly preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and basic electrical theory.
• Solid knowledge of fire alarm systems: installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
• Familiarity with NFPA 72, NEC and local fire codes preferred.
• Strong problem solving, attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer locations to perform installation, service and upgrades of fire alarm systems.
• Respond to emergencies during and after business hours to resolve safety concerns.
• Perform annual and semi-annual life safety system inspections.
• Write inspection and service reports, noting deficiencies and required corrections.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in fire alarm systems and take appropriate action.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and equipment inventory.
• Provide technical guidance to customers on system operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Stay current with industry trends, codes, and advancements related to fire alarm systems.

Job Summary

The Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, inspection, service, and repair of fire alarm systems. Respond to emergency and maintenance calls and troubleshoot/replace faulty devices to restore alarm panels to “normal condition”. Complete inspection and service reports.

Sign-On Bonus: The employee will receive a total sign-on bonus of $2,000, payable as follows:

• $1,000 after the employee successfully completes 30 calendar days of continuous employment; and
• $1,000 after the employee successfully completes 90 calendar days of continuous employment.

Repayment Obligation: In consideration of receiving the sign-on bonus, the employee agrees that if their employment ends for any reason, whether voluntary or involuntary, before completing six (6) months of continuous employment from their date of hire, the full sign-on bonus amount of $2,000 must be repaid to the Company, to the extent permitted by applicable law. The employee authorizes the Company to recover any amounts owed through lawful means.

Essential Job Functions

• Travel to customer locations to perform installation, service, and upgrades of fire alarm systems.
• Respond to emergency situations during and after business hours to resolve safety concerns.
• Perform Annual and Semi-annual inspection of Life Safety Systems.
• Write and provide inspection/service reports on tested equipment and devices. Indicate any deficiencies or corrections that need to be made.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose faults or malfunctions in fire alarm systems and take appropriate actions.
• Perform system upgrades, modifications, and expansions as necessary.
• Collaborate with customers, contractors, and other team members to ensure efficient and effective installation and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service reports, inspection reports, and equipment inventory.
• Provide technical support and guidance to customers regarding fire alarm systems, including system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Stay current with industry trends, codes, regulations, and technological advancements related to fire alarm systems.
• Adhere to safety guidelines and practices, both for personal safety and the safety of others.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required. Additional technical certifications or training in fire alarm systems is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of basic electricity and the ability to read electrical schematics.
• Proven experience working as a Fire Alarm Technician is preferred.
• Willing to support training/development for entry-level candidates. Technical aptitude preferred.
• Solid Knowledge of fire alarm systems, including installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred.
• Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards, such as NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire codes is preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals is preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Maintain a v alid driver's license and ability to pass a drug and background check.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear and have full use of hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to wor k from a ladder, and in some case, a man-lift.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel daily.
