Job summary

ASRC Federal Communications seeks a Fire Alarm Technician for the ISS2 contract to support Air Force customers. The role is based on Wake Island with a 3 months on/1 month off rotation, housing in a dormitory, meals provided, and travel to Wake Island arranged.

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in installation, commissioning, inspection, and repair of fire alarm, detection, annunciation and suppression systems.
  • Current NICET Level II certification for fire alarm detection and annunciation systems.
  • Current NICET Level II certification for special hazards suppression systems.
  • CPR certification or ability to obtain.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment fingerprints, physical, and drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs fire alarm and suppression systems to NFPA standards.
  • Repair fire alarm systems and perform recurring scheduled inspections.
  • Coordinate and report system status to the station fire chief.
  • Maintain maintenance and inspection records in NFPA format.
  • Work safely and read blueprints/engineer drawings.

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking a Fire Alarm Technician for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Wake Island.

It’s a rotational position in which the selected employee will work a schedule of 3 months on the island and 1 month off, unpaid. Wake Island is 2,100 miles away from HNL. While working on-site, housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. You are responsible for the flight from your home base to HNL. Transportation to Wake Island is provided by government-sponsored aircraft. This is a negotiated union position.

Summary:

Installs, inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs intrusion detection and fire alarm detection and suppression systems in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and National Fire Protection Association standards.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Inspects fire alarm detection and annunciation equipment and replaces defective components
  • Repair fire alarm systems as required to eliminate all trouble signals
  • Accomplish recurring scheduled inspections and or maintenance
  • Respond to all reported troubles and correct system errors
  • Maintain fire alarm systems per UFC 3-601-2
  • Tests initiating and signal circuits, detectors, and system transmitter
  • Makes needed repairs, checks pressure gauges on suppression system storage containers and recharges or replaces containers
  • Assure suppression systems are free of corrosion and assure operation
  • Coordinate and report all system status to the station fire chief
  • Maintain maintenance and inspection computerized records up to date in the NFPA required format
  • Performs related work as assigned
Accountable For:
  • Common safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.
  • Procedures for the safe operation and maintenance of electrical circuits, both overhead and underground.
  • Solid-state and conventional control circuitry,
  • Using hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.
  • Understanding and following directions.
  • Reading and working from blueprints and engineering drawings.
Work Conditions:

The employee is regularly required to talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions require the employee to stand; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and work on scaffolding and ladders, as well as elevated platform and confined spaces when required to access systems. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance.

Job Requirements:
Mandatory
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in installation, commissioning, inspection, and repair of fire alarm, detection, annunciation and suppression systems
  • Current and ability to maintain NICET Level II certification for fire alarm detection and annunciation systems
  • Current and ability to maintain NICET Level II certification for special hazards suppression systems
  • Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI)
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre- employment fingerprints, physical, and drug test
Preferred
  • Electrical Journeyman License or Certificate of Fitness with two years’ experience as a journeyman.
  • Current and ability to maintain NICET Level II certification for water-based suppression systems
  • Manufacturer system certification as applicable (e.g. Monaco, Ansul, Firetrace, etc)
  • Experience working in a remote location
  • Confined space training
