Job summary

Veridity is seeking a Fire Alarm Systems Designer II/III to develop code-compliant fire alarm and detection system designs, perform calculations, and create detailed drawings using AutoCAD and Revit. The role supports estimating, project coordination, and design reviews across sales and execution teams.

Located anywhere in the United States with a preference for Lenexa, KS residents, the position emphasizes strong technical knowledge and problem-solving to ensure project success and safety

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in fire alarm, fire suppression, or special hazards systems.
• Working knowledge of fire alarm design principles, calculations, equipment selection, and applicable codes and standards.
• Experience developing system drawings, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation using AutoCAD or comparable design software.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, and project drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate, code-compliant fire alarm and detection system designs in accordance with applicable codes and project requirements.
• Perform applicable system calculations and determine equipment, pathway classifications, survivability requirements, configurations, and other system requirements.
• Develop detailed system drawings, layouts, schematics, specifications, and supporting design documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, and other applicable design software.
• Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, and other project plans to identify requirements affecting system design.
• Prepare and maintain design calculations, specifications, drawings, revisions, and other technical documentation.
• Develop equipment and material takeoffs based on preliminary designs and project requirements.
• Review plans, specifications, customer requirements, and bid documentation to determine technical project scope.
• Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, exclusions, assumptions, and technical risks that may affect project cost or execution.
• Coordinate with Sales, Estimating, Engineering, Project Management, Field Services, vendors, and other resources to obtain information and resolve technical questions.
• Provide technical clarification and design assistance throughout the proposal and project lifecycle.
• Participate in project handoff to ensure design and scope assumptions are clearly communicated to Project Management and execution teams.
• At the Designer III level, provide advanced technical expertise, participate in systems coordination meetings, and support resolution of more complex design and application issues.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Engineering, the Fire Alarm Systems Designer develops technically accurate and code-compliant fire alarm and detection system designs and provides technical support throughout the sales and project lifecycle.

We are considering candidates at either the Designer II or Designer III level based on experience, technical proficiency, and certifications. This position performs applicable system calculations, develops drawings and specifications, supports equipment takeoffs and estimating, coordinates technical requirements with internal and external stakeholders, and provides design expertise to support successful project execution.

This position can be located anywhere in the United States, with a preference for those located in the Lenexa, KS area.

Required

Experience & Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Fire Protection, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.


• 3+ years of experience in fire alarm, fire suppression, or special hazards systems


• Working knowledge of fire alarm system design principles, calculations, equipment selection, and applicable codes and standards.


• Experience developing system drawings, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation using AutoCAD or comparable design software.


• Ability to read and interpret architectural, mechanical, electrical, and project drawings and specifications.


• Ability to develop equipment and material takeoffs and translate technical requirements into project scope.


• Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred

• NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems or Special Hazards


• Experience with detection and controls for clean agent or special hazards fire suppression systems.


• Experience supporting estimating, proposal development, or equipment takeoffs.


• Experience with Revit or other applicable design technology.


• Experience working with distributors, contractors, or project teams in the fire protection industry.
