Job summary

The City of Richmond Department of Planning & Development Review is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm/Sprinkler Inspector to inspect fire protection systems in residential, commercial, and public buildings for code compliance and safety standards.

The role requires reading technical drawings, coordinating with builders and contractors, and enforcing Virginia and local codes. This position is Essential Personnel and may require night/weekend work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of experience in area of assignment.
• State or local government inspection experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect high-rise and industrial projects for code conformance.
• Inspect large and complex buildings and ensure safety compliance.
• Coordinate with builders, owners and contractors to determine compliance.
• Read construction drawings and perform outdoor inspection work.
