Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Fire Alarm & Security Technician installs, troubleshoots, services, and repairs fire alarm and security systems, along with other fire and life safety products, with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  1. Knowledge of different manufacturers' clean agent and high-pressure suppression systems.
  2. Proper use of tools and test equipment such as multi-meters, megger, laptops for programming, lifts, etc., to repair or replace fire alarm and suppression system components.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of fire alarm codes and standards.
  4. Programming and software skills with various fire alarm systems for component removal or replacement.
  5. Troubleshoot to identify faults, including ground faults in fire alarm systems.
  6. Repair or replace damaged fire alarm components like FACP, power supplies, alarm-initiating devices, etc.
  7. Follow safety procedures when handling, removing, and replacing explosive actuators such as squibs and gas cartridges.
  8. Communicate professionally with internal and external customers and offsite monitoring companies.
  9. Be punctual and complete scheduled projects on time.
  10. Use Field Service Lightning to track work orders, materials, and time.
  11. Complete documentation on work orders accurately.
  12. Follow safety policies, SDS, hazardous communication programs, and participate in weekly toolbox talks. Maintain awareness of safety documentation on each project.
  13. Maintain company vehicle cleanliness and condition as per policies.
  14. Be available on-call to handle emergency service requests as required by location.
  15. Attend seminars or training to stay updated on technology, codes, and standards.
  16. Train service technician trainees in fire protection aspects.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NICET or state-specific certification preferred.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
  • At least 2 years of experience in Fire Life Safety Industry, specifically Fire Alarm.
  • NICET Level 1 Fire Alarm Certification required.
  • Professional computer skills preferred.
Communication Skills:
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with colleagues and customers.
Systems and Software Skills:
  • Experience with business intelligence systems like Sage 300 CRE preferred.
Other Qualifications:
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Compliance with drug, alcohol, and background screening policies.
  • Ability to travel locally up to 90% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:

Regular outdoor work exposed to weather, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Occasionally indoors, working alone or with others, always wearing appropriate PPE as per safety policies.
