Job summary

JARBO is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm / Security Systems Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, program, and test commercial fire alarm and electronic security systems in the St. Louis area.

This role covers fire alarm, access control, intrusion detection, IP video, and other low-voltage systems. Expect 20-30% travel, daytime hours with occasional nights, and independent field work with customer interaction.

Qualifications

• Hands-on commercial field experience with fire alarm, access control, intrusion alarm, IP video/CCTV, or low-voltage systems.
• Ability to independently install, test, troubleshoot, and service low-voltage systems.
• Experience reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, site plans, and electrical layouts.
• Understanding of low-voltage wiring, terminations, devices, control panels, and system communications.
• Working knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 72.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
• NICET certification is strongly preferred; state Life Safety or Fire Alarm licenses are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Pull and test low-voltage cabling; perform cable pathway work and limited conduit bending.
• Read and interpret blueprints, site maps, wiring diagrams, and electrical layouts.
• Troubleshoot and commission systems prior to turnover; provide on-site and remote technical escalation support.

We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm / Security Systems Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, program, and test commercial fire alarm and electronic security systems.

This position is ideal for a technician with hands-on experience in fire alarm, access control, intrusion detection, IP video/CCTV, or commercial low-voltage systems who is comfortable working independently, troubleshooting system-level issues, and interacting directly with customers.

The position is primarily local/regional with approximately 20-30% travel. Most work is performed during normal daytime hours, with occasional nights or alternative shifts based on customer and project requirements.

What You'll Do

• Install, service, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade commercial fire alarm, access control, intrusion alarm, and IP video systems
• Install and program fire alarm control panels and associated devices
• Test fire alarm systems and components to verify proper operation and code compliance
• Install access control devices including card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, electric strikes, maglocks, and control panels
• Install and troubleshoot intrusion detection and IP video/CCTV systems
• Pull, route, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling
• Perform cable pathway work, including concrete drilling and limited conduit bending
• Install sensors and devices in commercial facilities, including locations requiring ladders or lifts
• Read and interpret blueprints, site maps, wiring diagrams, electrical layouts, and system drawings
• Troubleshoot newly installed and existing systems to identify wiring, programming, communication, or equipment issues
• Commission and test systems prior to customer turnover
• Assist with technical planning and pre-installation activities
• Provide technical escalation support both on-site and remotely
• Coordinate with Installation Team Leads and Project Managers regarding schedules, equipment, and project requirements
• Maintain accurate documentation of work performed
• Ensure installations meet applicable local, state, federal, electrical, fire, and life-safety requirements
• Follow company, customer, and OSHA safety requirements

What We're Looking For

• Hands-on commercial field experience with one or more of the following:
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Access control systems
  • Intrusion alarm systems
  • Electronic security systems
  • IP video / CCTV
  • Commercial low-voltage systems
• Ability to independently install, test, troubleshoot, and service low-voltage systems
• Experience reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, site plans, and electrical layouts
• Understanding of low-voltage wiring, terminations, devices, control panels, and system communications
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 70 and NFPA 72
• Ability to use meters, hand tools, power tools, drills, and common low-voltage installation equipment
• Ability and willingness to work from lifts at heights of approximately 20-60 feet
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Strong customer-service and communication skills
• Comfortable working independently at customer locations
• Proficiency with smartphones, laptops, email, spreadsheets, and electronic work-management systems
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements
• Reliable transportation during the initial training period before a company vehicle is issued
• Basic PPE and appropriate technician tools

Certifications and Licensing

• NICET certification is strongly preferred
• Current state-required Life Safety, Fire Alarm, Physical Security, or related license, where required for the work being performed
• Additional manufacturer certifications are a plus

Candidates with strong hands-on commercial experience are encouraged to apply even if they do not currently hold every preferred certification.

Preferred Technical Experience

• Fire Alarm: Notifier, Fire-Lite, Simplex, EST/Edwards, Siemens, Gamewell-FCI, Silent Knight, Honeywell, Bosch, or similar systems
• Access Control / Security: LenelS2, Genetec, Software House/ C-CURE, Avigilon, AMAG, Brivo, DMP, Honeywell, Bosch, HID, or similar systems
• Experience with a specific manufacturer is not required if you have strong transferable fire alarm, security, electrical, or low-voltage experience.

Travel and Schedule

• Approximately 20-30% travel
• Primarily day shift, generally around 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
• Some night, weekend, or off-shift work may be required based on customer or project needs
• Occasional overnight travel
• Must be comfortable working at active commercial job sites
