Job summary

Convergint is seeking a full-time Fire Alarm Project Technician in Houston, Texas. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, programming, and testing fire alarm systems while providing exemplary customer service. The ideal candidate should have strong technical skills, a valid TX Fire Alarm Installer License, and be able to work independently.

Job description

Convergint is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, results driven and forward-thinking Fire Alarm Project Technician to join our amazing culture. In this role, you will install, program, perform system start-up/check-out, testing/commissioning, customer training and all associated documentation on assigned installation projects including more complex projects. As a Fire Alarm Project Technician, you are a part of a dynamic team that allows you to grow as Convergint grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of systems and equipment which may include security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation.
  • Serve as the key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction.
  • Refer more complex issues to higher level colleagues.
  • Work with working knowledge of blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures unassisted, may require assistance with more complex.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repair equipment, utilizing knowledge of electronics and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions. Write routine programs for.
  • Act as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times thereby ensuring Convergint technologies is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty.
  • May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product.
  • Execute many of the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and ongoing technical support.
  • Identify potential project risks, communicate to appropriate parties and assist in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project.
  • Work with Fire Alarm Designer to ensure fire alarm system meets all relevant codes and standards.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager and assists in the overall coordination of specific projects; make recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope and identify ways to continuously improve customer.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced.
What You'll Need
  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
  • Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience.
  • Willing to learn technical skills and/or experience related to fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security.
  • Be a self-starter and work well with little supervision.
  • Understanding of electronics to include Ohm’s law, resistor color code, and relay logic for control of third-party equipment.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper).
  • Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems of small to medium size.
  • Be driven to achieve necessary certifications/licensing related to products, industry, and city/state.
  • Willingness to coach and mentor less experienced.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Possess NICET Level II in Fire Alarm.
  • Possess low voltage electrical license as required by local/state.
  • Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis. Minimal overnight travel may be required.

Requirements
  • Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years relevant experience (required).
  • TX Fire Alarm Installer License (required).
  • NICET Certification (preferred but not required).
  • EST Certification (preferred but not required).
  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field including equivalent military experience (preferred but not required).
