Role Description

The Fire Alarm Programmer/Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in North East, PA. This position is responsible for programming, installing, testing, and maintaining fire alarm and related life safety systems in commercial and industrial buildings. Daily tasks include configuring control panels and devices, performing system start-ups and functional tests, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards. The role also involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications, documenting work performed, and coordinating with contractors, project managers, and clients to support successful project delivery. The technician may assist with upgrades, retrofits, and service calls, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Foundational knowledge in Computer Science and Software Development, with the ability to apply logical problem-solving to fire alarm and control systems.
• Proficiency in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) for configuring, modifying, and troubleshooting system software and firmware.
• Experience or familiarity with Back-End Web Development concepts beneficial for working with networked, cloud-connected, or IP-based building systems.
• Understanding of fire alarm systems, NFPA codes, and basic electrical/electronic principles (low-voltage wiring, circuits, and device installation).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and project specifications.
• Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, contractors, and clients on job sites.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to project sites; willingness to work in field conditions and occasionally outside standard hours.
• Relevant technical diploma, associate degree, or equivalent experience in electronics, computer science, or a related field preferred.
• Industry certifications (e.g., NICET in Fire Alarm Systems or manufacturer-specific training) are a plus.
