Qualifications

• 3+ years of fire alarm design experience or equivalent field experience.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and IBC.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and creating CAD drawings.
• Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience on commercial/industrial fire protection projects preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with sales, PMs, engineers, contractors and installers.

Responsibilities

• Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards, codes and project specs.
• Develop AutoCAD floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, layouts and power calculations.
• Review designs for accuracy, code compliance and constructability before submission.
• Conduct jobsite surveys to evaluate layouts and site conditions.
• Prepare submittal packages with drawings, BOMs, specs and calculations.
• Coordinate with project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical support during installation and execution.
• Assist with scheduling, material tracking and procurement.
• Review drawings and assist team in understanding them.
• Identify and resolve design issues to maintain schedules and quality.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to join our growing fire protection services team. This position is responsible for designing fire alarm systems for commercial and industrial projects while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and company quality requirements.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on fire alarm design or field experience, strong AutoCAD skills, knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and IBC, and the ability to collaborate effectively with sales, project managers, engineers, contractors, and installation teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA standards, applicable codes, and project specifications.
• Develop AutoCAD floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, control panel layouts, and system power calculations.
• Review designs for accuracy, quality, code compliance, and constructability before submission.
• Conduct jobsite surveys to evaluate building layouts, site conditions, and potential design challenges.
• Create scaled CAD drawings based on site survey information when required.
• Select appropriate fire alarm devices, control panels, and system components based on project specifications.
• Prepare complete submittal packages, including technical drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and calculations.
• Coordinate with sales, project managers, engineers, contractors, and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical support and design guidance during installation and project execution.
• Assist with project scheduling, material tracking, procurement, fabrication, and onsite planning.
• Review architectural, structural, engineering, and construction drawings and assist team members in understanding them.
• Identify and resolve design issues while maintaining project schedules and quality standards.
• Assist management in improving design processes, efficiency, and quality.
• Ensure all work complies with company policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of fire alarm design experience and/or direct fire alarm field experience.
• Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and IBC.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong understanding of commercial, industrial, or similar fire protection projects preferred.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, employees, supervisors, contractors, and project teams.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends when required.
• Ability to travel to jobsites and other company locations up to 50% as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• NICET certification strongly preferred.
• Associate degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience designing commercial/industrial fire alarm systems.
• Previous field installation or service experience.
• Experience preparing plans and documentation for permitting and authority approval.
