Teksky is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to join our team. You will design and document life-safety systems including fire alarm, mass notification, and security components, using AutoCAD for shop and record drawings.

You will coordinate with customers and project teams, perform battery and voltage drop calculations, prepare complete submittal packages, and support permitting and field surveys while staying current with NFPA 72 and related codes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Fire Alarm Designer.
  • Experience with AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and schematic drawings.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).

Fire Alarm Designer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality life safety system designs that meet or exceed customer expectations, applicable codes, and industry standards.

The position will focus on the design and documentation of fire alarm, mass notification, and security alarm systems, with responsibility for drawings, calculations, submittals, permitting, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Fire Alarm, Mass Notification, and Security Alarm systems using AutoCAD for shop and record drawings.
  • Communicate with customers, Design Managers, sales representatives, and Project Managers regarding assigned projects and status updates.
  • Perform battery calculations and voltage drop calculations for fire alarm systems.
  • Prepare complete submittal packages, including drawings, calculations, and product datasheets for permitting.
  • Review plans, specifications, and bids to support contract sales efforts and ensure technical accuracy and adherence to best practices.
  • Participate in weekly design meetings.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings as requested.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to entry- and mid-level designers when requested.
  • Maintain current knowledge of fire alarm design materials, technologies, installation methods, and industry standards.
  • Participate in industry organizations related to alarm system design and applicable code requirements.
  • Prepare and submit Operations & Maintenance (O&M) packages for completed projects in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) for assigned projects.
  • Perform site surveys when necessary to gather information required for system design.
  • Coordinate with the Permit Coordinator to prepare and submit drawings, documentation, completed applications, and transmittal forms to the appropriate municipalities and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Fire Alarm Designer.
  • AutoCAD.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and schematic drawings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to successfully complete pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level III or higher.
  • Delaware Fire Alarm License.
  • Experience with VESDA design.
  • Knowledge of applicable fire alarm and life safety codes and standards, including NFPA 72 and relevant electrical/building codes.
