Job summary

Ahern is seeking a Special Hazards Designer to support design and integration of fire suppression and related systems. This role offers flexibility to work from any office or remotely, with opportunities to contribute to multi‑discipline projects across the country.

You will apply your 5–7 years of experience to develop comprehensive design plans, confirm codes and standards, and ensure AHJ requirements are met. NICET certification is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in the design of special hazard suppression and pre‑engineered systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Revit is required.
  • Knowledge of low voltage wiring and special hazard fire suppression systems is a plus.
  • NICET Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee project design progression from inception to completion.
  • Develop a comprehensive design plan to meet schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in team and on‑site progress meetings and AHJ compliance.
  • Balance multiple tasks with strict deadlines to deliver detailed designs.

You will develop a comprehensive design plan to meet schedules and budgets, and participate in team and on‑site progress meetings. You will understand and follow all published codes, standards, and unique project specifications while ensuring AHJ requirements and procedures are followed. The ability to multi‑task and prioritize assignments with a strong adherence to deadlines will be crucial. You will be challenged to excel beyond your expectations in a team‑oriented, fast‑paced environment.

What You Need To Qualify

Ahern will make the most of your 5–7 years of experience in the design of special hazard suppression and pre‑engineered systems. Previous experience working in AutoCAD or Revit is required. You can stand out above other candidates by demonstrating your knowledge of low voltage wiring along with experience and knowledge of special hazard fire suppression systems. A commitment to providing exceptional customer service, maintaining cutting‑edge industry knowledge, and being able to pre‑plan and execute tasks with a great amount of detail will be crucial. NICET Certification preferred.
