We are partnering with a growing financial institution seeking an experienced compliance professional to support its fintech and embedded-finance partnerships.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with significant visibility and ownership. The individual will assess prospective and existing fintech partners, advise business leaders on regulatory requirements, and help strengthen the compliance framework supporting a growing partner ecosystem.
A major focus of the position is fintech partner due diligence and risk assessment. The ideal candidate can evaluate both the financial health of a fintech and the strength of its compliance program, then translate those findings into practical recommendations regarding onboarding, continued partnership, remediation, or termination.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead regulatory and compliance due diligence for new and existing fintech partners, including initial reviews, periodic assessments, and reviews triggered by material changes or risk events.
- Develop consistent partner-risk assessments and provide clear recommendations to senior management and governance stakeholders.
- Evaluate fintech financial health, including financial statements, liquidity, funding sources, capital runway, unit economics, business-model sustainability, and other indicators of ongoing viability.
- Assess partner compliance programs across governance, policies and procedures, staffing, controls, monitoring and testing, complaint handling, regulatory history, and enforcement matters.
- Advise business teams and fintech partners on consumer regulatory requirements, including TILA, ECOA, FCRA, Regulation E, Regulation DD, Regulation P, and UDAAP/UDAP.
- Work closely with BSA/AML leadership on matters involving CIP/KYC, transaction monitoring, suspicious activity reporting, sanctions, and other financial-crime risks associated with partner programs.
- Evaluate cross-border fintech relationships, including foreign banking and payments licensing considerations and related regulatory, AML, sanctions, and financial risks.
- Provide compliance guidance throughout the partner lifecycle, including onboarding, contract considerations, ongoing oversight, issue management, remediation, and relationship changes.
- Review customer communications, disclosures, and marketing materials for regulatory compliance when needed.
- Partner with Compliance, Risk, Legal, Information Security, Product, Engineering, and Operations to identify control weaknesses and implement scalable solutions.
- Monitor regulatory developments, enforcement activity, and supervisory expectations affecting fintech partnerships and translate changes into practical business guidance.
- Support OCC and other regulatory examinations, internal audits, information requests, and remediation efforts involving third-party or fintech programs.
- Contribute to senior management and Board-level reporting regarding partner risks, control issues, and emerging regulatory concerns.
- Use modern compliance technology, including AI-assisted research and analysis tools, to improve the efficiency and consistency of regulatory and partner-risk assessments.
- Analyze data flows and system integrations between the institution and its partners to identify potential compliance and control gaps.
Candidate Profile
- 8+ years of experience across banking compliance, financial-services risk, fintech oversight, or related areas.
- Significant exposure to consumer compliance, BSA/AML, and bank-fintech partnerships.
- Direct experience conducting hands-on due diligence of fintech partners is essential.
- Ability to assess both:
- Financial viability: financial statements, liquidity, funding, capital runway, unit economics, and business-model sustainability.
- Compliance maturity: governance, policies, controls, staffing, testing, monitoring, complaints, and regulatory/enforcement history.
- Demonstrated ability to combine financial and compliance findings into well-supported risk ratings and partner recommendations.
- Knowledge of cross-border financial-services risks and familiarity with foreign banking or payments licensing frameworks.
- Strong working knowledge of major federal consumer protection requirements, including TILA, ECOA, FCRA, UDAAP/UDAP, Regulations E, DD, and P, as well as BSA/AML requirements relevant to fintech programs.
- Familiarity with current federal supervisory expectations governing third-party relationships, fintech partnerships, and third-party deposit arrangements.
- Experience advising business stakeholders in a rapidly growing, newly established, or evolving banking environment.
- Comfortable working with AI-enabled compliance/research tools and performing data-flow and data-mapping analysis across partner integrations.
