Job summary

VDOT is seeking a Data Analyst 3 to analyze IT financial data across Azure cloud services and on‑premises data centers, driving cost optimization and strategic decisions.

The role focuses on building Power BI dashboards, forecasting spend, and supporting FinOps initiatives. Collaboration with cloud, I&O, and finance teams is essential to translate complex data into actionable insights for leadership.

Onsite presence required in DC area 2-3 days per week; U.S. residency is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Finance, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related field.
• Advanced Power BI skills including Power Query and DAX.
• Data modeling and data manipulation across multiple sources.
• Strong familiarity with Azure cost management, Apptio, and cloud billing structures.
• Understanding of server migration strategies and workload cost modeling.
• Ability to translate technical data into actionable insights for leadership.
• Independent analytical thinking for complex financial data.
• Proficiency in updating Power BI datasets with minimal assistance.
• Clear communication of complex data for decision-makers.

Responsibilities

• Analyze IT financial data across Azure and VITA environments, including consumption, billing, and chargeback models.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize cost trends and workload impacts.
• Perform variance analysis on monthly and annual IT spend to identify anomalies and savings.
• Maintain datasets from Apptio, Azure Portal, and SharePoint for accuracy.
• Document processes and procedures for financial reporting and analysis.
• Collaborate with cloud, I&O, and finance stakeholders to align cost models with operations.
• Model server cost scenarios to support Azure migration planning.
• Contribute to FinOps by providing cost driver insights and utilization patterns.
