Job summary

Graphic Packaging International is seeking a Finishing Machine Operator to adjust glue machinery for carton production and oversee operations. The role includes maintaining speed, diagnosing issues, and training feeder/catcher staff.

Responsibilities also cover routine maintenance, data recording in SAP, and labeling per customer specifications. Night differential and on-site shifts apply, with a tobacco-free site policy in effect.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of machine operator experience required.
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude.
  • Entry-level computer skills.
  • Must set up and troubleshoot Leary, Mactron, Alpina and Pafra glue systems.
  • Feeder/Inspector experience preferred. Mechanical experience helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Adjust glue machinery to fit carton style.
  • Maintain machinery speed and diagnose malfunctions quickly.
  • Lead crew members on gluer machinery and train feeders/catchers as needed.
  • Cover duties of Feeder/Inspector during breaks (approx. 2 hours/day).
  • Perform maintenance on gluer machinery: grease, oil, clean, bearings and belt replacement.
  • Maintain SAP records and monitor quality/production data.
  • Create labels per customer specs.
  • Assist others in troubleshooting problems when called.

Wages for Finishing Machine Operator start at $24.41 per hour up to $29.94 per hour depending on skill level and experience.

Additional $1.50 shift differential for night shift.

JOB SUMMARY

The person who occupies this position is expected to adjust gluing machines in order to process a flat carton order and oversee its production (complex glue experience a plus).

JOB FUNCTIONS

Job functions include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • The operator is responsible for adjusting glue machinery to fit the particular style of carton being processed.
  • Once production begins, the operator is responsible for maintaining machinery at optimum speed. When malfunctions occur, the operator is to be able to detect the cause and make appropriate adjustments as quickly as possible.
  • The operator is responsible for the members of the crew working on gluer machinery. Is fully responsible in ensuring team members are working efficiently and safely. The operator is also responsible for training feeder/catcher trainees as necessary.
  • Must assume duties of the Feeder or Inspector when those persons are on breaks (see job description for Feeder/Catcher). The Operator performs the activities of Feeder/Inspector for approximately 2 hours per day.
  • Responsible for performing maintenance duties on gluer machinery; greasing, oiling, blowing off machinery, glue pot maintenance, bearing and belt replacement, and cleaning parts.
  • Able to maintain written and electronic (SAP) records of quality and production, and Ignition software. Operator goes through hourly statistical measurements (carton alignment, edge caliper, opening force, glue length, etc.)
  • Responsible for making labels per customer specs.
  • Ability and Positive attitude to teach and help fellow operators to troubleshoot all problems when called upon to do so.
Background / Experience / Skills
  • 1-2 years of machine operator experience required
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude
  • Entry-level computer skills
  • All requirements for Machine Gluer Operator in addition to the ability to set up and troubleshoot Leary, Mactron, Alpina, and Pafra glue systems
  • Feeder/Inspector experience preferred. Mechanical experience is helpful (automotive, small engine repair, etc.)
  • Finishing machine, allen wrench, screwdriver, and other related tools needed for make-ready. SAP, RF Gen, and Ingition systems. Required to provide your own tools.
Schedule Requirements
  • Schedules are up to 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off. However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends, and be punctual while doing so.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignments, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Routine Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasional Team Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying (up to 50 lbs.), pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, visual acuity (Near and Far).
  • Reading computer screens or other electronic devices.li>
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Inside conditions, extremes of heat (up to 100 degrees in the summer), humidity, noise (from production machinery; must wear hearing protection in the Finishing area).
  • Working knowledge of finishing machine (gluer). Mechanical aptitude.
