Job summary

Colonial Group in Hillsdale, MI seeks a Finishing Operator for 2nd shift (3:00pm–1:00am). The role performs casting processing and inspection to meet customer specs, including grinding, scale use, and shakeout operations. Responsibilities cover quality checks, material handling, and maintaining a safe, clean work area.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic math and blueprint reading experience preferred.
• ISO-9001 knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect castings for defects per work instructions including external defects, core fin or flash, burn-in sand, high ingate, etc.
• Operate grinders safely and report wheel or machine issues to the facilitator.
• Place finished parts in designated shipping containers for shipment per work instructions.
• Transfer containers and material using a forklift within instructed guidelines.
• If operating a forklift, complete daily inspection checklists as required.
• Operate weigh scale as needed.
• Operate shakeout and separate gates, risers, and castings.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• May be assigned other duties as needed.

Finishing Operator 2nd shift!

Monday-Friday

3:00pm-1:00am

This position is responsible for the processing and inspection of castings to insure they meet or exceed our customer requirements.

Essential Functions:

• Inspects castings for defects per work instructions including external defects, excessive core fin or flash, burn-in sand, high ingate, etc.
• Operates grinders (i.e. hand and pedestal) in a safe manner by inspecting grinder for proper adjustment, cracks or chips in the wheel and overall working condition. The operator will report any problems to the facilitator.
• Places finished parts in designated shipping containers for shipment as specified by work instructions.
• Transfers containers and other material using a forklift as needed within compliance of relevant work instructions.
• When assigned to operate a forklift must complete daily inspection checklists as required.
• Operates weigh scale as needed.
• Operate shakeout including separating gates, risers, and castings.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• May be assigned other duties as needed.

Experience Required

• Machining experience with milling and turning experience preferred
• Previous knowledge of foundry practices, principles, equipment, etc. preferred.
• Basic knowledge of machining processes preferred

Education, Training & Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent GED preferred
• Basic math and blueprint reading experience preferred
  • Adding, dividing, averages, etc. and ability to plot data points. Using charts to convert decimals and fractions. Print reading a benefit but not required.
• Basic knowledge of Quality Systems, such as ISO-9001 Preferred
