Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands is seeking a Welder/Fitter for our Mount Pleasant, IA facility. The role involves coordinating welding settings, reading blueprints, and ensuring bead quality while maintaining safety standards in a manufacturing environment.

The position requires an associate degree or welding experience, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and proficiency with power tools and forklifts. Training and development are provided as part of our comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school; or 1-3 years welding experience.
• Ability to read blueprints/drawings and shop standards.
• Good communication and math abilities; able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

Responsibilities

• Understand safety rules for manufacturing environment.
• Coordinate welder settings, gun speed/travel, and gas flow with bead condition.
• Read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standards.
• Decide adjustments to gun/manipulation as needed.
• Determine repairs for pin holes and burn-through.
• Train others on welding procedures per procedures.
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment.
• Hold beads to specified shapes, sizes and penetrations.
• Maintain numerical and alphabetical sequence accuracy.
• Support continuous improvement in the work area.

Job Description

JOB DETAILS

Base pay starts at $22.60 - 26.14 per hour

Work Schedule: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM (Monday - Friday)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Knows and understands all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment
• Responsible for coordination of welder settings, gun speed/travel and gas flow with the observed condition of bead
• Read a tape measure and blueprints to shop standard
• Decide when adjustment or gun manipulation needs to be altered
• Decide how much and what repairs to make for pin holes and burn-through caused by an auto welder
• Train and teach proper welding procedures in accordance with manufacturing job procedures
• Operate overhead crane and other lifting equipment
• Responsible for holding beads to specified shapes, sizes, and penetrations while maintaining the quality of the product
• Keeping numerical and alphabetical sequences correct
• Maintains continuous improvement practices in thework area
• May be assigned other projects and duties as designated by Team Leader

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year College or technical school; or (1) to three (3) years working experience in welding; or equivalent combination of education and experience as a welder/fitter in the manufacturing industry
• Read blueprints and drawings
• Read and comprehend documents including but not limited to policy manuals, safety rules/programs, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence
• Ability to communicate information effectively one-on-one and in small group situations and settings is required
• Perform general mathematic calculations including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and division.
• Required to use power hand tools
• Required to drive a forklift
• Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist
