Job summary

Thornapple Excavating in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Dozer Operator for a full-time role within our earthwork team. You will operate a dozer or other heavy equipment safely, read blueprints, set up rotary lasers, and coordinate with the site supervisor to meet the project’s grading requirements.

Candidates should have at least 5 years of heavy equipment experience and a solid understanding of grades; GPS is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
• Understanding of grades and commercial earthwork.
• GPS experience encouraged but not required.
• Ability to work with limited direction/supervision.
• Safety-minded with strong work ethic.
• Willing to work with crew and adapt to tasks.

Responsibilities

• Operate a dozer, excavator, or other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
• Finish grade level operation.
• Read blueprints to understand site plan.
• Set up rotary lasers and use for site grading.
• Communicate with site supervisor/foreman about site requirements.
• Coordinate with laborers, truck drivers, and other crew to keep site running safely.
• Perform general equipment maintenance and cleaning.
• Adjust to seasonal weather conditions and work up to 12 hours per day.
• Maintain safety as a primary focus on site.
