Job summary

The City of Detroit is seeking a Finish Carpenter in the Construction and Demolition Department to perform difficult carpentry work including the construction, erection, installation, alteration, and repair of wooden structures and fixtures. Candidates should study drawings and blueprints, determine materials, and assemble components with hand and bench tools.

Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of carpentry experience; a Michigan operator license

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent G.E.D.
• Two (2) years of experience in the construction, erection, installation, alteration, and repair of wooden structures and Equipment.

Responsibilities

• Erect framework for structure.
• Install window frames and sash, fit and hang doors.
• Build and repair stairways, cabinets, shelving, and benches.
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, rough sketches and oral instructions.
• Prepare layouts and determine materials needed.
