POSITION PURPOSE
The Finish Blade Operator performs a variety of physical tasks, including operating heavy equipment and machinery, and using power tools and/or hand tools for applying asphalt products as defined by each job/project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform duties with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
- Work quickly, productively, and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the Foreman, Superintendent, and/or Production Manager.
- Follow directions from the Foreman and/or Superintendent regarding daily production schedules and activities.
- Operate heavy equipment, specifically Cat equipment.
- Advocate safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in job-site and safety meetings and all company training.
- Ensure the job-site is safe and traffic is controlled before starting work.
- Communicate effectively with paver operators, truck drivers, and laborers.
- If operating a commercial motor vehicle, conduct pre/post trip inspections in compliance with laws.
- Transport equipment as required and assist in maintenance of equipment.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and machinery.
- Report problems or malfunctions to supervisors or shop personnel.
- Set up and tear down equipment as needed.
- Maintain a clean and secure job site daily.
- Handle materials safely according to SDS sheets.
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Serve as a front-line company representative, providing excellent service.
- Use hand tools such as rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc.
- Perform general labor work as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned, noting that responsibilities may change.

Safety
- This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol policies and OSHA regulations.
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
- Enforce safe work practices and identify hazards proactively.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Operate in construction sites, requiring communication, reading, lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, and other physical activities.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, sometimes for long periods.
- Exposure to chemicals, pollutants, loud noises, moving vehicles, and debris.
Position Type / Expected Hours
- Full-time, with possible evening and weekend work.
- Willingness to travel and stay at multiple job sites as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Work Experience, and Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six months to one year of related experience.
- Ability to read, speak, and write English.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver's license with a clean record; CDL may be required for some departments.
- Pre-employment drug, alcohol screening, and background check required.
