JOB DESCRIPTION
The Financial Systems Manager owns the design, configuration, and continuous improvement of Daybright Financial's core finance technology stack, anchored on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC). Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role is the connective tissue between Finance and Technology: translating accounting and reporting requirements into scalable system solutions, standardizing processes across a rapidly growing multi-entity organization, and eliminating manual effort through automation and AI.
Daybright has grown to more than 22,000 employer groups and 3.6 million plan participants through the acquisition of 60+ firms since 2008. Every acquisition arrives with its own chart of accounts, close calendar, banking structure, and reporting conventions. This role is central to converging that estate onto a single, well-controlled financial systems platform — and to making the finance function faster, cleaner, and more insightful as the company continues to scale.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Solution Architecture: Lead the design, development, and implementation of financial solutions within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Conduct fit/gap analyses to identify where configuration, extension, or third-party ISV solutions are warranted, and develop detailed design specifications. Favor standard, upgrade-safe functionality and minimize customization.
- Business Process Optimization: Partner with finance stakeholders to assess, refine, and automate key financial processes across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Fixed Assets, and Project/Job Accounting. Balance automated solutions against the practicality of manual processes, recommending the best approach based on business need, cost, and control impact.
- AI & Intelligent Automation: Identify opportunities to embed AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation within Business Central, the Power Platform, and adjacent technologies to reduce manual effort, strengthen controls, accelerate financial operations, and enhance user productivity. Evaluate emerging Copilot capabilities in Business Central and advise leadership on practical, governed applications within Finance.
- M&A Systems Integration: Serve as the finance systems lead for acquisition onboarding: map and convert acquired-entity data, establish new legal entities, configure intercompany trade and eliminations, align the chart of accounts and dimension structure to corporate standards, and retire redundant legacy platforms on a defined timeline.
- Project Delivery: Oversee the full lifecycle of finance technology projects — requirements gathering, solution design, build, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and against clearly defined business outcomes.
- Data, Reporting & Analytics: Build and enhance financial reports, dashboards, and data management processes. Own the integrity of the financial data model — dimensions, account structure, hierarchies, and master data governance — and partner with Technology on the reporting and data platform (Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or equivalent).
- System Integration: Design and maintain integrations between Business Central and adjacent platforms — payroll, HRIS, benefits administration, recordkeeping, billing/commission, banking, and expense systems — creating seamless workflows that span multiple business areas and segments.
- Controls, Security & Audit: Collaborate with internal audit, external audit, and finance leadership to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting within the system. Administer user access, role-based security, and segregation of duties; maintain system documentation, change control, and evidence of key automated controls.
- Release & Platform Management: Manage the Business Central release cadence, sandbox and regression testing, environment strategy, and ISV/vendor relationships including contract renewals and roadmap alignment.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional partners across Technology, Operations, HR, and the business segments to design and deliver effective financial solutions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate is a hands-on systems leader who is equally credible with a controller and with a developer — someone who understands the accounting behind the transaction, can configure the system that records it, and can explain both to a non-technical audience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field required.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in financial systems, ERP implementation, or finance transformation.
- At least two (2) full-lifecycle ERP implementations, upgrades, or entity conversions in a lead or senior functional role.
- Demonstrated experience in a multi-entity or acquisitive organization, including intercompany accounting and consolidations.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or matrix-managing analysts, administrators, or external implementation partners.
- CPA, CMA, PMP, or Certified Scrum Master credentials are a plus.
- Prior public accounting, professional services, insurance brokerage, or third-party administration (TPA) experience is a plus.
RELATED COMPETENCIES:
- ERP Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, with a demonstrated track record of designing and implementing finance-related systems. Confident leading solution design and implementation end to end, including AL extension development or the ability to direct partners who write it, BC data migration via configuration packages and RapidStart, and the BC permission set and security model.
- Finance & Accounting Knowledge: Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial processes, and the related Business Central modules.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects from requirements gathering through execution. Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Scaled Agile methodologies.
- System Integration: Familiarity with integrating enterprise applications, ERP systems, and legacy platforms via APIs, middleware, and file-based interfaces.
- AI & Intelligent Automation: Experience evaluating or implementing AI-enabled business solutions, Microsoft Copilot capabilities, intelligent workflow automation, predictive analytics, or process optimization technologies. Able to identify practical applications of AI within finance operations while ensuring appropriate governance, compliance, and data quality.
- Data & Reporting: Strong command of financial reporting and analytics tooling — Power BI, Jet Reports or equivalent BC reporting layer, Excel at an advanced level, and SQL. Experience with data migration, cleansing, and validation for system conversions.
- Internal Control: Understanding of IT general controls, segregation of duties, change management, and the evidence auditors expect from a financial system. Experience supporting SOC 1 or financial statement audits is preferred.
- Certifications & Technical Expertise: Microsoft certifications in Finance or other relevant modules are preferred (e.g., MB-800: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant), along with a solid understanding of Microsoft's broader technology stack including Power Platform, Azure services, Microsoft Fabric, Copilot capabilities, etc.
PERSONAL SKILLS & CULTURAL FIT:
- People Centered: Approaches colleagues and clients with positivity, honesty, and respect. Patient and generous with users of differing technical comfort, and genuinely interested in making their day-to-day work easier.
- Client Focused: Treats internal finance teams as clients. Understands that a system change is only successful when the people using it are better off.
- Work as One: Collaborates naturally across corporate, private sector, public sector, and employee benefits segments, and across finance, technology, and operations. Builds consensus on standards rather than imposing them.
- Speak Up: Comfortable challenging the status quo and surfacing a better way — including telling leadership when a requested customization is the wrong answer. Raises risks early and directly.
- Ownership & Bias for Action: Self-directed in a remote setting, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to move a project forward without waiting to be asked. Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable under close-cycle deadlines.
