Financial Specialist - The Center for Advancing Health Equity in Rural and Underserved Communities

This position is based in Chicago, IL, and is funded for 1 year, with continuation contingent on university needs and funding.

The Penn State College of Medicine's Center for Advancing Health Equity in Rural and Underserved Communities (CAHE-RUC) seeks a Financial Specialist to manage financial operations, including report analysis, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting. The role requires previous non-profit experience in university settings and involves evaluating and updating accounting software and procedures, preparing financial statements, and handling grant-related financial activities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Processing invoices, checks, and mailings.
  • Reconciling checking and investment accounts.
  • Maintaining the General Ledger in QuickBooks.
  • Managing payroll and deposits.
  • Preparing financial reports for the board and teams.
  • Handling payroll taxes, year-end close, and audits.
  • Recording donations and managing grant budgets and reporting.
  • Coordinating with external auditors and managing tax returns.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and financial statements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop relationships with stakeholders.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s in accounting and non-profit experience.

Applicants must pass background checks including criminal and FBI fingerprint checks. The salary range is $61,800 - $89,600, with comprehensive benefits including health coverage, retirement plans, paid time off, and tuition discounts.
