Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Post-Award Supervisor, the Clinical Research Finance Analyst supports the clinical research efforts of the Cancer Center by managing the accounts receivable for a large clinical trial portfolio under the management of the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center's Office of Clinical Research (OCR). The OCR manages approximately 250+ active, or in-development, clinical trials. With this large and dynamic portfolio, the OCR consistently maintains accounts receivable totaling >$5M for work performed and costs incurred.

  • Bachelor degree in finance, scientific fields or related fields and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Experience with clinical trial agreements and clinical research billing principles.
  • Working knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS), preferably Oncore.
  • Experience managing finances for oncology-specific trials.
  • Knowledge and experience using automated financial systems to effectively manage a variety of projects and accounts from various funding sources.

Department Overview

The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCDCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose mission is to reduce the burden of cancer among the diverse populations in our community and beyond through bidirectional engagement and transdisciplinary collaborations that enhance our understanding of cancer, inform new ways to prevent and treat cancer, and prepares a committed and inclusive workforce. The OCR is the centralized office for clinical research operations within UCDCCC. The OCR services support the entire lifecycle of cancer-related clinical research protocols. These include support for development and implementation of clinical trials, quality control of clinical research operations, training and education services, and financial management.

Department Specific Job Scope

The Clinical Research Financial Analyst works closely with OCR management and staff, OCR Executive Director, faculty and personnel from departments throughout UCDH, and personnel from other research institutions and private industry. This individual must think critically, analyze highly complex documents such as medical records, clinical trial agreements (CTAs) and clinical trial protocols to resolve and respond to inquiries and requests for additional information. Must accurately maintain clinical trial financial statements and invoice logs; and provide financial data and reports on a routine and ad hoc basis.

The incumbent plays a critical role in the processing and servicing of a variety of operational, personnel, and financial transactions and services. Includes cashiering, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel / entertainment, gift accounting, collections, data collection and data entry, analysis, review and control, customer service, and reporting. The Clinical Research Finance Analyst promotes ethical and proper behavior in all matters related to OCR business operations and maintains effective controls that promote adherence to applicable laws, regulations, rules and guidelines regarding Federal, State and Private health services in the performance of clinical research.
