Job summary

Chord Energy is seeking a Financial Reporting Accountant in Downtown Houston with a hybrid option (remote Mondays and Fridays). The role supports the Financial Reporting team, ensuring accurate SEC and internal reporting, and interacts with the Executive team.

Responsibilities include monthly financial statements, 10-K/10-Q drafts, intercompany reconciliations, and coordination with auditors. A Bachelor's in Accounting, 1+ year experience, and strong Excel/communication skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar discipline
  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • Big 4 or similar public accounting experience
  • Exposure to financial reporting and SEC filings
  • Exposure to complex accounting subjects (e.g., revenue recognition, leases, stock-based compensation, business combinations)
  • Excel proficient
  • Proactive and deadline driven
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with accounting research tools
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and related schedules for the monthly financial package
  • Compile monthly and quarterly variance analysis and explain significant variances in financial statement accounts
  • Assist with compilation of 10-K and 10-Q drafts, updating disclosures for the current reporting period and completing financial statement disclosure checklists
  • Coordinate with other departments to obtain information for 10-K/Q disclosures
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency across all SEC filings and related disclosures
  • Record monthly journal entries and prepare related schedules and reconciliations
  • Reconcile intercompany receivable/payable accounts and eliminate intercompany balances on consolidation
  • Review XBRL tagging of financial statements and footnotes for Forms 10-K and 10-Q
  • Coordinate with independent auditors to facilitate audits and respond to requests
  • Monitor and document impact of new GAAP updates and SEC guidelines
  • Maintain SOX controls

Position Summary

The Financial Reporting Accountant will work as part of the Financial Reporting team responsible for ensuring that all financial statements, reports and disclosures are complete, accurate and timely for SEC reporting, and for internal reporting to the Executive team. This role reports to the Financial Reporting Supervisor in our Downtown Houston, TX office. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays.

Salary and level commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and related schedules for the monthly financial package
  • Compile monthly and quarterly variance analysis and explain significant variances in financial statement accounts, utilizing input from the respective account owners in the Accounting department
  • Assist with compilation of 10-K and 10-Q drafts, updating disclosures for the current reporting period and completing financial statement disclosure checklists
  • Coordinate with other departments to obtain information for 10-K/Q disclosures
  • Ensures accuracy and consistency across all SEC filings (e.g., 10-K, 10-Q, etc), including earnings releases and investor presentations and maintain organized tie-out supporting documentation
  • Record monthly journal entries, including preparation of related supporting schedules and account reconciliations, as needed
  • Reconcile intercompany receivable and payable accounts, and ensure intercompany balances are properly eliminated on a consolidated basis
  • Review XBRL tagging of financial statements and footnotes for Forms 10-K and 10-Q
  • Coordinate with independent auditors in order to facilitate a successful audit and provide documentation requests, as necessary
  • Monitor, assess and document impact of new GAAP Accounting Standards Updates and SEC guidelines
  • Maintain SOX controls

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA license (or actively pursuing certification)

  • Experience with Planful (or similar applications such as OneStream or Hyperion)
