Job description

Senior Financial Advisor - Independent Wealth Management Firm

Location: Northern New Jersey (New York Metro Area)

Work Environment: On-site, Full-time, with a flexible schedule and early-finish Fridays

Role Summary

We’re hiring a Senior Financial Advisor on behalf of our client - a growing independent wealth management firm based in Northern New Jersey.

This is far more than a seat at an established practice. The firm’s founder has spent nearly an extensive number of years building a comprehensive, approximately $300 million wealth management business, and is now looking to invest in the right advisor for the long haul. Working directly alongside the founder, you will take on an existing group of client relationships, convert a steady flow of firm-sourced leads and referrals, and progressively assume greater responsibility for client relationships, firm growth, and leadership, with a long-term path toward equity partnership and succession.

With dedicated investment management, planning technology, and operational support already in place, you get to focus on what you do best: advising clients, delivering thoughtful planning, and growing a book that is truly yours. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, consultative planner with a proven record of winning clients on their own, an entrepreneurial streak, and a genuine interest in one day helping lead the firm.

Core Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive financial plans for individuals, couples, and high-net-worth families across a range of goals and life stages
  • Take ownership of an assigned group of existing client relationships and deepen them through full-scope planning
  • Convert firm-sourced leads and internal referrals, representing roughly $2 - 3 million in annual opportunity, into new client relationships
  • Identify insurance planning needs and guide clients toward appropriate solutions
  • Strengthen relationships over time to drive retention, referrals, and organic growth
  • Partner with the firm’s internal investment team, freeing you from portfolio construction so you can focus on advising
  • Join select larger client meetings with the founder to learn the firm’s philosophy, planning approach, and client experience
  • Collaborate with the founder on business development and firm growth initiatives as your responsibilities expand
  • Represent the firm’s values and planning standards in every client interaction
  • Continue developing professionally, including pursuing the CFP designation or other credentials where relevant
  • Contribute to a collegial, flexible, client-first office culture
Candidate Profile

The right person has already proven they can build meaningful client relationships and is ready for the next stage of their career.

Must-Haves
  • Five or more years of experience as a financial advisor or financial planner
  • A proven, individual track record of developing, closing, and retaining client relationships
  • Hands-on experience delivering comprehensive financial planning for individuals and couples
  • Active Series 63 and Series 65 combination license, or equivalent
  • A confident, consultative approach to new business, including comfort asking for the commitment
  • Strong communication and relationship-management skills
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, a commitment to serving high-net-worth individuals and families, and an interest in long-term leadership and potential ownership
Nice-to-Haves
  • CFP designation (the firm will support the right candidate in obtaining it)
  • An existing book of business that can transition with you
  • Insurance licenses and practical insurance planning experience
  • Background in accounting
  • Familiarity with the major platforms used by independent broker-dealers
Compensation And Benefits
  • Base salary of $75,000 to $125,000, depending on experience, credentials, and existing book
  • Above-average production payout structure
  • Transition compensation for qualified advisors bringing an existing book, designed to help offset temporary income disruption
  • Long-term potential for equity participation and succession
  • Ownership of your clients, with the ability to build a sellable book of business from day one
  • Firm-supplied leads and internal referrals, plus established marketing support
  • Direct mentorship from the founder, with the goal of developing you into a seven-figure annual producer
  • Employer-paid CFP certification expenses for qualified candidates
  • No office rent or overhead expenses
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) with employer contributions
  • Health insurance reimbursement plan
  • Established technology, operational, and administrative support
Work Environment and Culture

This is a full-time, in-office role based in Northern New Jersey, with a flexible schedule and an early finish on Fridays. The firm stays small on purpose, choosing to serve a carefully selected clientele exceptionally well rather than grow simply to get bigger. The team is close-knit and collegial, red tape is minimal, and everyone is trusted to manage their own time and deliver results without being micromanaged.

Individual contributions are noticed here, and professional growth is something the whole team invests in. If you enjoy independence, value a friendly and cooperative environment, and want a real path to leadership and ownership, this is an opportunity worth a conversation. All inquiries will be handled with complete confidentiality.
