Job summary

HireTalent - Staffing & Recruiting Firm seeks a highly technical FinOps Engineer to optimize, automate, and scale cloud financial operations in McLean, Virginia.

You will design cost monitoring, build data pipelines, and develop dashboards using AWS QuickSight to drive cost efficiency across our cloud environments. Collaborate with engineering and finance to implement best practices, rightsize resources, and ensure governance and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 3-6+ years in cloud engineering, DevOps, FinOps, or similar.
  • Hands-on AWS experience with EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Cost Explorer, CUR.
  • Experience building dashboards using AWS QuickSight.
  • Proficiency in Python/Java and SQL for data processing.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud cost monitoring and optimization solutions.
  • Develop automated pipelines to ingest and analyze cloud billing data.
  • Create dashboards and reports using AWS QuickSight for cost insights.
  • Partner with engineering to implement cost-efficient architectures and best practices.
  • Identify automated cost optimization strategies and tagging frameworks.
  • Integrate cost data into internal systems and workflows.
  • Support forecasting, anomaly detection, and cost governance through tooling.
  • Continuously improve tooling, observability, and reporting for FinOps.

Education

Job description

We are looking for a highly technical FinOps Engineer to help optimize, automate, and scale cloud financial operations. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and data, and is responsible for building tooling, pipelines, and insights that drive cost efficiency and accountability across our cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable solutions for cloud cost monitoring, allocation, and optimization
  • Develop automated pipelines to ingest, transform, and analyze cloud billing and usage data
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reporting solutions using AWS QuickSight to provide actionable cost insights
  • Partner with engineering teams to implement cost-efficient architectures and enforce FinOps best practices
  • Identify and implement automated cost optimization strategies (e.g., rightsizing, scheduling, savings plans, spot usage)
  • Build and maintain tagging strategies and cost allocation frameworks
  • Integrate cost data into internal systems and workflows (e.g., data lakes, BI platforms, finance systems)
  • Support forecasting, anomaly detection, and cost governance through engineering solutions
  • Continuously improve tooling, observability, and reporting for cloud financial operations
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • 3-6+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, FinOps, or a related technical role
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Cost Explorer, CUR)
  • Proven experience building dashboards and visualizations using AWS QuickSight
  • Experience working with AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR) and billing datasets
  • Proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, or similar)
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with large datasets (e.g., Athena, Redshift, or similar)
  • Experience building ETL/data pipelines and working with data lakes or warehouses
  • Understanding of cloud cost drivers and optimization techniques
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred Experience
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner or other FinOps-related certification
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments (Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with third-party cost management tools (e.g., CloudHealth, Apptio, Kubecost)
  • Experience implementing cost anomaly detection or alerting systems
  • Knowledge of containerized environments (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS) and their cost implications
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks
  • Background in financial modeling or cloud budgeting/forecasting
