Job description

The Arts & Sciences Center (ASC) is seeking a creative Financial Literacy Club Facilitator to design and lead an after-school program for intermediate and high school students in Puna Makai. This is an opportunity for someone who believes financial literacy can be practical, relevant, and even fun, and who has ideas about how to help young people develop skills they'll actually use in their lives.

The program is supported through grant funding and is intended to provide participants with meaningful opportunities to build financial knowledge and confidence. The right candidate will take a creative approach to designing this club, integrating locally relevant scenarios, hands-on activities, games, projects, guest speakers, and other ideas to make financial literacy accessible and engaging for young people.

This temporary part-time position is available starting in January through May 2027 and reports to the Programs Director. This role has a set schedule of 2:00-5:00pm on Mondays through Thursdays. Finally, this position is in-person at the Arts & Sciences Center (home to HAAS Main Campus) and can be expected to work both inside and outside as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate after-school club sessions in a supportive, inclusive, and youth-centered environment
• Lead participants in developing practical knowledge and skills related to topics such as budgeting, saving, spending, credit, banking, earning income, and financial planning
• Adapt activities and instruction to the interests, experiences, and learning needs of participants
• Create opportunities for participants to apply financial concepts through hands-on activities, discussions, projects, and real-world scenarios
• Track participation data and report on basic program information and outcomes as required by the grant
• Communicate with ASC staff regarding scheduling, participation, program needs, and progress
• Participate in occasional program planning or meetings with ASC staff

This position could be a good fit for someone with experience in education, youth development, financial services, business, entrepreneurship, community education - or someone with a completely different background who has a strong idea and the ability to bring it to life. Most importantly, we want you to bring your own ideas. If you have a compelling way to teach young people about money that doesn't look like a traditional class, we want to hear about it.

Your Program Proposal

As part of your application, we are asking you to propose the program you would like to facilitate.

This is intentionally not a request for a complete curriculum. We want to get a sense of how you think about teaching financial literacy and what kind of experience you would create for your club participants. Your proposal should include:

• Concept: What would your financial literacy club look and feel like? What would make participants want to come back?
• Outcomes: What financial knowledge, skills, or habits would you want participants to walk away with?
• Methods: Describe some of the activities, projects, discussions, games, real-world experiences, or other approaches you might use.

We understand that the final program will be developed collaboratively and may change based on participant interests, available resources, grant requirements, and the facilitator selected.
