Job summary

The Arizona Auditor General's office in Phoenix is seeking a Financial Auditor I/II/Senior to perform targeted audits and fraud investigations, interviewing parties and analyzing financial data to support state governance improvements.

The role requires a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, strong analytical and communication skills, and the ability to work with prosecutors and law enforcement. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Experience conducting financial analysis and internal controls related to fraud allegations.
  • Interest in obtaining the CFE designation.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Level II: 2+ years of experience in financial analysis and internal controls; Senior: 4+ years.

Responsibilities

  • Interview involved parties, including employees, public officials, and potential suspects.
  • Conduct financial analysis and internal control reviews related to fraud allegations.
  • Write interview memos and comprehensive investigative reports.
  • Ability to analyze financial investigation materials and apply judgment.
  • Liaise with criminal prosecutors and law enforcement.
  • Testify in front of grand juries and at trials or hearings.
  • Assist other Auditor General divisions with fraud issues and concerns.
  • Provide fraud detection and deterrence trainings to internal personnel as well as outside agencies.
  • Conduct high risk reviews for outside governmental entities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Be thorough, precise, accurate, and detail oriented.

What You'll Do:
  • Interviewing involved parties, including employees, public officials, and potential suspects.

What You'll Need:
  • Accounting bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Some experience conducting financial analysis and internal controls related to fraud allegations.
  • Strong interest in public service and improving State government.
  • Strong analytical, research, critical thinking, time management, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Obtained or interest in obtaining a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Must have valid Arizona driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Level II - 2 years or more experience conducting financial analysis and reviews of internal controls related to fraud allegations.
  • Senior – Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience and 4 years or more experience conducting financial analysis and reviews of internal controls related to fraud allegations.
