CommonSpirit Health's Mercy Hospital in Durango, CO seeks a patient financial counselor responsible for Medicaid presumptive eligibility, hospital financial assistance programs and related billing activities.
The role requires strong customer service, basic billing knowledge and ability to explain payment options to insured and uninsured patients. You will coordinate with patients, physicians, clinics and community agencies to resolve accounts.

Responsible for administering the Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility, Medical disability, long term care applications and Hospital Financial Assistance Programs. Act as a liaison between the patients, physician, patient clinics, accounts, and community agencies. Responsible for performing financial screenings on patients and making a determination based on provided information; therefore directing the patient to the appropriate financial program. Also, responsible for counseling patients regarding their financial obligation and collection of monies owed for medical services. Administering and counseling insured and non‑insured patients on payment plans and/or package pricing, and writing off or adjusting all accounts as deemed necessary. Interacts with executives and other leadership on approval of payment plans or settlements. Works closely with the Patient Representatives in researching and handling patient complaints related to billing.
