This role involves discussing and resolving financial matters with patients/guarantors who are uninsured, underinsured, or owe outstanding amounts to SPG. Responsibilities include making payment arrangements, administering the SPG Charity Care Program, and collecting monies due from patients/guarantors.

A Brief Overview

This role involves discussing and resolving financial matters with patients/guarantors, assisting with payment arrangements, and administering the SPG Charity Care Program, with an emphasis on insurance eligibility and coverage verification.

What you will do
  • Discuss and resolve financial matters with patients and guarantors, assisting with payment arrangements and documenting them.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and coverage, document results, and assist patients with applying for charity care if needed.
  • Document charity care applications and outcomes of financial counseling.
  • Prepare financial reports supporting SPG's charity care efforts.
  • Support collection functions, set goals, and develop performance improvement plans.
  • Provide training to staff on financial counseling and collection challenges.
  • Collect monies due from patients/guarantors and issue receipts.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience Requirements
  • 3-5 years in billing, coding, or insurance verification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and diplomacy skills
  • Knowledge of practice management systems and basic computer skills
  • Detail-oriented with analytical thinking, prioritization, and organizational skills
Supervision Provided by this Position
  • No supervisory responsibilities
Physical Demands
  • Must have good balance and coordination
  • Light work exerting up to 25 lbs occasionally and 10 lbs frequently
  • Requires close visual acuity for data analysis, reading, and computer work
  • Typically performed in an office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions
