Job summary

The Part-Time Financial Counselor at Phipps will lead the Rockaway Village Financial Counseling Program based at Crotona Park West location. They will host monthly financial literacy workshops, conduct outreach, and hold one-on-one sessions to help residents living in affordable housing who are struggling with finances and in severe debt.

This role is based at our Crotona Park West location and requires occasional evenings and weekends, with regular hours Tuesday - Thursday, 11am-4pm.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in finance, economics, or a business-related field.
• 1-3 years of experience with financial counseling, working with diverse communities.
• Bilingual preferred (Spanish-speaking).

Responsibilities

• Develop and plan monthly financial workshops, in-person and virtual, on budgeting, credit, and debt reduction.
• Collaborate with financial institutions to leverage resources for residents.
• Prepare one-on-one lessons with actionable debt-reduction strategies.
• Conduct outreach with the Resident Ambassador to contact residents with rent arrears.
• Assign tasks for residents before one-on-one sessions.
• Build strong relationships and provide a safe space for residents.
• Be familiar with banking tools/apps and use Salesforce to track progress.

The Part-Time Financial Counselor will be responsible for leading the Rockaway Village Financial Counseling Program based at Crotona Park West location. They will host monthly financial literacy workshops, conduct outreach, and hold one-on-one sessions to help residents living in affordable housing who are struggling with finances and in severe debt.

This role is based at our Crotona Park West location.

The Financial Counselor will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends, with regular work hours Tuesday - Thursday, 11am-4pm. This position is available for a one-year period, with a potential extension depending on grant funds.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work closely with management to develop and plan monthly financial workshops both in-person and virtually focused on budgeting, credit scores, debt reduction strategies, etc.
• Work closely with financial institutions to leverage resources and to facilitate workshops as needed for residents.
• Prepare one-on-one lessons for residents who are in debt and provide them with actionable strategies to reduce current debt
• Conduct outreach with the Resident Ambassador by contacting residents with significant rent arrears
• Prepare tasks for residents to complete prior to one-on-one sessions.
• Foster and maintain strong relationships with residents and offer a safe space for them.
• Be familiar with technology-related banking tools and apps.
• Use Salesforce to track residents’ progress and follow-ups.
• Be familiar and open with working with people of different cultures and backgrounds.
• Maintain safe and healthy training environments by following organizational standards.
• Perform other related tasks deemed necessary by the agency.
