Overview

The Motley Fool is seeking a highly skilled freelance fact-checker and copyeditor for an independent contract (approximately 10-20 hours per week). This role is remote, but candidates must reside in the United States for consideration.

What Does this Team Do?

The Premium Content team provides informative, investor-driven content. The role focuses on maintaining accuracy and high editorial standards for Foolish content.

What Will You Do in This Role?
  • Fact-check sources and copy edit content in Google Docs, ensuring a Foolish voice and alignment with publishing guidelines for Premium content.
  • Review content in CMS systems, set up content pages, format correctly, and ensure all guidelines and publishing criteria are met, including the publishing workflow.
  • Collaborate with the AI development team to review and ensure accuracy, quality, and consistency of AI-generated content.
  • Provide constructive feedback on AI-generated outputs to refine and enhance AI-driven content solutions.
  • Communicate efficiently with Product Operations Managers and Writers to clarify needs and questions.
  • Understand the Premium Content Publishing Workflow in Jira Software.
Required Experience
  • Solid understanding of financial concepts, terminology, and the global financial landscape.
  • Strong grasp of Foolish investing principles and our brand voice.
  • Experience in journalism, editing, or related fields with knowledge of news writing, AP style, and journalistic ethics.
  • Proficiency in fact-checking methodologies to verify information, data, and sources in financial articles.
  • Attention to detail to identify inaccuracies or inconsistencies in content and data.
  • Strong research skills across sources, databases, and financial reports.
  • Ability to interpret and validate statistical information in financial articles.
  • Knowledge of financial compliance and regulatory requirements to ensure content accuracy and legality.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, fact-checking software, CMS, and other technology used in financial publishing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with writers, editors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrated impartiality and credibility in fact-checking, without bias toward any institution or ideology.

Hourly Pay Range: $45 - $45 USD

Location: Remote; United States residents only.
