Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Financial Coordinator maximizes reimbursement for transplant services, identifies financial liabilities, and ensures insurance benefits or funding are in place prior to transplantation.
Responsibilities include verifying financial, insurance, and demographic information for outpatient and inpatient transplant encounters, advising and educating transplant candidates and families on payor benefits and billing issues, and collaborating with clinical and administrative staff to resolve reimbursement problems.
The role involves obtaining necessary documentation such as benefit verifications, authorizations, and referrals, monitoring financial aspects of transplant candidates and donors, and developing procedures related to transplant administration and finances.
The coordinator also educates candidates on Medicare and Medicaid processes, researches insurance coverage, and maintains up-to-date financial information. They participate in candidate and donor orientations, assist with funding options, and monitor financial performance and billing activities related to transplant services.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, with an associate's degree in a related field preferred. At least two years of experience in hospital or medical billing, insurance verification, or related fields is required. Knowledge of medical billing, insurance standards, and regulations is essential.
