Taltran Global has been exclusively retained by a well-established construction company seeking a Controller to join their team! The organization has built a strong reputation in its core markets by delivering a range of complex, project-based construction and improvement services across a diverse set of both residential and commercial clientele. As the business continues to grow, leadership is focused on strengthening the finance function to support profitability, operational discipline, and more sophisticated forward-looking decision-making.

The Controller will report directly to executive leadership and will play a critical role in building a best-in-class accounting and FP&A function. This individual will be responsible not only for overseeing core accounting operations and financial reporting, but also for elevating budgeting, forecasting, and analytical capabilities to provide clear visibility into project performance, cash flow, and overall business trends for ownership. The role offers meaningful executive exposure and the opportunity to help professionalize the finance organization in a growing, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Controller will oversee the accounting and financial planning function and provide leadership across all core financial activities, including but not limited to:

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant financial reporting
  • Maintain and enforce U.S. GAAP-compliant accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Oversee general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, job costing, and cash management activities in a project-based environment
  • Prepare and review financial statements, detailed variance analyses, and management reporting for senior leadership
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, with a strong emphasis on project-level profitability, labor efficiency, and cash flow forecasting
  • Develop and enhance FP&A capabilities, including KPI dashboards, rolling forecasts, and actionable performance insights for leadership
  • Partner closely with operations and executive leadership to translate financial data into strategic and operational recommendations
  • Drive improvements in job costing, WIP tracking, and margin analysis to improve project visibility and decision-making
  • Lead the development and implementation of scalable systems, processes, and controls to support growth and operational complexity
  • Support external audits, tax filings, and coordination with third-party advisors
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives, including evaluating growth opportunities and supporting future expansion or acquisition activity
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience within project-based, field-services, or specialty contracting environments
  • Strong background in job costing, project accounting, and WIP-based reporting
  • Demonstrated strength in FP&A, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
  • Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience building or enhancing accounting and FP&A infrastructure in a growing organization
  • Ability to operate hands-on while also thinking strategically and forward-looking
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment involving regular interaction with both executive leadership and operations teams
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with both financial and operational stakeholders
