Job summary

Gila River Development seeks a seasoned Financial Controller to oversee the accounting function and guide the accounting staff in adhering to applicable standards. You will manage day-to-day operations, strengthen internal controls, and ensure accurate financial reporting for all stakeholders.

You will lead budgeting and forecasting, coordinate with auditors, and provide strategic financial insights to support decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles.
• Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for client meetings and events.
• Valid AZ driver’s license, provide a 39-month satisfactory MVR report.
• Obtain a Tribal operator driving permit at the time of hire.
• A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
• Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with external and internal auditors for the annual audit process and address any audit findings or recommendations.
• Generate financial reports for management, board members, and other stakeholders as required.
• Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor budget performance and variance analysis to identify areas for improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
• Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns, including sales tax and payroll tax, where applicable.
• Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations and implement necessary updates to ensure compliance.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and support to foster professional growth and development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant certification.
• Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

• Strong technical capacity with proficiency in using accounting software, spreadsheets, and word processing programs at an advanced level.
