Summary of Job Duties:
This position will be responsible for supporting the financial management of the Office of Research and Innovation. He/she will provide financial and administrative support to the division and departments housed within. Oversees pre-post award activities for internal awards funded through the Division. Performs general accounting duties and manages relevant funds. Acts as a subject matter expert and trains division staff accordingly on procedures, policies and general fiscal operations.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • 4 years of experience in business administration, finance, accounting or related field.
  • Modern office practices and equipment, including applicable software (Workday, Excel, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in business administration, finance, accounting or related field.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA) and/or UAMS Grants Management Certification Program (GMCP).
  • Ability to analyze financial records and policies and translate those records to federal requirements for proper expenditure identification and analysis.
  • People skills to work with administrators across campus are a must.
  • Proficiency in excel, databases, and data manipulation required.


Additional Information:


The Financial Analyst will need to be detailed oriented, self-motivated, and have good communication skills. He/she will need to use judgement and experience to apply advance knowledge, skills, methods, and practices to ensure UAMS policies and procedures are followed. He/she also conducts analysis and problem-solving to assist in planning and prioritize a varied workload that involves time-sensitive and/or confidential projects.

Internal Awards
- Oversee pre and post award activities for internal awards funded through the Office of Research and Innovation. Manage transfers, monitor grant spending, perform quarterly reconciliation and closeout of awards.

Divisional/Department Financial Management
- Work with department directors in collaboration with division leadership to prepare, monitor and maintain operating budgets.
- Research previous years and current expenditures to assist in planning, developing and strengthening fiscal operations of the division.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports, analyzes records to assist directors and division leadership in performing trend analysis, forecasting and determining needs.
- Approve and oversee division/department related procurement, travel, and purchasing.
- Develop expertise in knowledge of division operations and act as a subject matter expert and report issues as necessary to division leadership.
- Ensure compliance with policies, process improvements, and effective communication among the division.
- Train division and department staff with financial operations as needed (budget monitoring, procurement, forecasting, etc.), ensuring they have a general understanding of fiscal operations and system procedures and policies.

Other Duties as Assigned
- Assist with completion of special projects required by division as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
