Job summary

International Paper is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead financial analysis, budgeting, and month-end close at our New Castle plant. You will work under the Controller to improve accounting efficiency and strengthen controls while ensuring accurate reporting.

The role requires a degree in accounting or finance and 3+ years of related experience in a manufacturing setting. Strong Excel skills and effective communication with leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, business or related field required.
  • 3+ years of accounting and/or finance experience; manufacturing experience desirable.
  • Knowledge of general business management and internal financial practices.
  • Proficient in Excel with pivot tables.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of operational results, trends, and budgeting to support management objectives.
  • Develop and refine accounting processes for efficiency and documentation.
  • Maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide financial analysis per standards and company policies.
  • Perform daily financial activities and participate in month-end close.
  • Ensure timely processing of reporting and payroll data.
  • Data entry and system research for financial insights.
  • Adhere to financial policies and capital investment guidelines for the plant.
  • Investigate and evaluate financial transactions for proper treatment.
  • Review payroll hours and balance hours; ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee periodic inventory counts for materials and assets.

$65,100 - $86,800 (USCORE)

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s annual incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:
  • Work under the direction of the Controller in the preparation and analysis of operational results, operating trends, customer profitability, capital projects, incentive plan calculations, budgeting & forecasting, special projects, and initiatives in order to assist management in achieving operations and management objectives.

  • Work with Controller in development and refinement of processes to improve accounting efficiencies and process documentation.

  • Actively assist Controller in maintaining and enhancing internal controls, accounting policy, and procedures.

  • Provide financial analysis including interpretation and application of professional standards, company policies, and processes.

  • Perform daily financial activities, prepare journal entries, and participate in month-end close for the plant.

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities and reporting.

  • Perform data entry and utilize systems as a source of research analysis.

  • Be familiar with the financial policies and procedures outlined in the financial policies and capital investment manuals as they relate to the plant.

  • Investigate, review, and evaluate various financial transactions and the recommendation of the appropriate treatment.

  • Review labor hours entered and approved into payroll system, balance hours, and maintain accuracy.

  • Control periodic inventory counts for raw materials, consumables, spare parts, fixed assets, and finished goods.

The Skills You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, business or related field required.

  • 3+ years of accounting and/or finance experience; work experience in manufacturing facility highly desirable.

  • Corrugated, printing, packaging and/or related finance experience in manufacturing environment a plus.

  • Knowledge of general business management principles, internal financial management, and industry business practices.

  • Self-starter, critical thinking, and ability to influence peers and management.

  • Effective communication with business leaders at various levels and functions.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with an understanding of formulas and pivot tables.
