Job summary

NPAA in Lansing, Illinois is seeking a Financial Analyst to support financial planning, cost analysis, inventory management and reporting in a manufacturing setting.

You will analyze product costs, labor, and overhead, monitor inventory costs, perform variance analyses and provide insights to pricing, purchasing and operations. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, supply chain, or related field.
  • At least three years of financial analysis, cost accounting, inventory analysis, or manufacturing finance experience.
  • Strong understanding of product costing, standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost drivers preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems required; SAP experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; analytics/reporting tools experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and analyze material cost records, standard costs, and related costing data to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform periodic material cost updates and evaluate financial impact of changes in raw material, labor, overhead, and supply costs.
  • Conduct monthly actual vs. plan variance analysis for manufacturing expenses, production performance, inventory activity, and cost center results.
  • Develop financial analytics, dashboards and reports summarizing cost trends, inventory movements, expense performance and forecasted spending.
  • Prepare periodic cost reconciliation reports including labor, supply, freight, overhead and inventory-related costs.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing cost centers and annual plan support.
  • Analyze inventory valuation, movements, obsolescence and physical inventory activity to support controls.
  • Partner with Operations, Purchasing and Finance to investigate variances and process improvements.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and analyze depreciation and capital activity.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Financial Analyst will support financial planning, cost analysis, inventory management, and reporting within a manufacturing environment. This role will analyze product costs, material, labor, and overhead expenses; monitor inventory costs; perform monthly cost and variance analysis; and provide accurate financial insights to support pricing, purchasing, and operational decisions. The position will partner with cross-functional teams to identify cost drivers, trends, and opportunities for improved financial performance.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain and analyze material cost records, standard costs, and related costing data to support accurate financial reporting and business decisions.
  • Perform periodic material cost updates and evaluate the financial impact of changes in raw material, labor, overhead, and supply costs.
  • Perform monthly actual versus plan variance analysis for manufacturing expenses, production performance, inventory activity, and cost center results.
  • Develop financial analytics, dashboards, and reports that summarize cost trends, inventory movements, expense performance, forecasted spending, and efficiency opportunities.
  • Prepare periodic cost reconciliation reports, including analysis of changing labor, supply, freight, overhead, and inventory-related costs.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting for manufacturing cost centers, including annual plan support, cost assumptions, and operational expense analysis.
  • Analyze inventory valuation, inventory movements, obsolescence, discards, cycle count results, and physical inventory activity to support inventory accuracy and financial controls.
  • Partner with Operations, Purchasing, and Finance to investigate cost variances, inventory discrepancies, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and analyze depreciation, capital activity, and related expense impacts.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, supply chain, or related field desired.
  • At least three years of related financial analysis, cost accounting, inventory analysis, or manufacturing finance experience required.
  • Strong understanding of product costing, standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and manufacturing cost drivers preferred.
  • Experience analyzing large data sets and developing financial reports, trend analysis, reconciliations, and actionable business insights required.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX concepts preferred.
  • Previous experience with ERP systems required; SAP experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required; experience with analytics or reporting tools preferred.
