Job description

We’re looking for a Financial Analyst to join the Finance team at MarginEdge. You should be an Excel wizard who’s just as excited about what AI can do for finance. You’ll own financial reporting and help with planning and analysis, including budgeting and forecasting, cash management and operational KPI reporting. Working with the FP&A Director, you’ll use financial and operational data to track and report on the key drivers of the business and to forecast future revenue and spend. We don’t want you spending your time copying data from one place to another. We want you to use AI tools to automate the routine work and spend your time on the analysis that actually moves the business.

This role is based at our Arlington, VA headquarters and follows a hybrid schedule of three days per week in-office.

MarginEdge: Where hospitality meets technology

As a team built by former (and current!) restaurant operators, our mission is to bring operators the same energy, attention to detail, and passion that they bring to their guests. Our culture is deeply rooted in service, partially because that’s where so many of our team come from (including everyone on our Business Development team), but also because we believe it is just the right way to run a business. We design our software with profound empathy for the complexity of running a restaurant, and the goal of making the magic just a little easier for operators by taking the complex (read: very annoying) back office tasks off their plate, while empowering them with real-time data.

Our founders share a deep history in both owning and operating restaurants and in building successful tech companies. We are venture-backed and serve 12,000+ restaurants across the US and Canada.

We enable restaurants to make magic while knowing we are doing the same for them.

We have the utmost respect for our clients and because of this, we are unable to hire their current employees.

What type of responsibilities will I have?
Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Maintain and keep improving the company-wide financial model, producing up-to-date income statement, balance sheet and cash flow projections.
  • Use AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot in Excel) to speed up model building, scenario analysis and first drafts of variance commentary. You’ll always check the output and own the final answer.
  • Identify trends in financial performance and recommend improvements.
  • Report on and analyze monthly results for the executive team, department heads and investors.
  • Track actuals against plan and write clear, concise variance analyses that explain what drove the numbers.
  • Prepare monthly board reporting and financial slides for quarterly board meetings.
  • Support financial due diligence for capital raises and M&A transactions.
  • Build models from scratch and adapt existing ones to support decisions across the business.
  • Handle ad hoc analysis and projects as needed.
Automation & AI-Enabled Finance
  • Find manual, repetitive steps in reporting, forecasting and close, and automate them with AI assistants, scripts or workflow tools.
  • Build reusable prompts, templates and lightweight tools that help the Finance team work faster and more consistently.
  • Help set guardrails for using AI in finance, including data accuracy, review steps and protecting confidential information.
  • Stay current on new AI capabilities and pilot the ones that could raise the team’s output.
Operational KPI Tracking & Reporting
  • Influence business decisions with data-driven analysis.
  • Provide insight into the drivers of growth, costs, user metrics and market trends, using AI to pull together and summarize large data sets faster.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and make actionable recommendations.
Accounting Operations
  • Help the accounting team with month-end close, reconciliations and compliance reporting. Where you can, look for ways to automate those steps.
What qualifications or skills are required?
  • 2-3 Years of experience in financial planning and analysis, accounting or a closely related function.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, statistics, economics, or business administration.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel strong skills in PowerPoint; Skilled in working with financial databases, accounting systems, and related technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret complex data to all necessary stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management and organizational ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A demonstrated work ethic and strong desire to exceed expectations.

Compensation: The anticipated salary range for this role is $80,000–$90,000 annually. Where a candidate falls within that range depends on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus opportunities and our comprehensive benefits package.

Did we mention it has a full commercial kitchen and is walking distance (covered walking, that is) from the metro?

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran, marital, disability status or any other characteristic protected by law. You be you. While we are proudest of our commitment to exceptional culture and creating a truly excellent work environment, we see our benefits as an extension of that belief. Our benefits package is designed to be exceptionally competitive and a reflection of our commitment to a best-in-class workplace for all.
