Job summary

The University of Maine System in Orono, ME is seeking a dedicated individual to manage Alternative and PLUS Loan processing, eligibility determinations, disbursements, and data transmission. The role supports the Assistant Director with FAME programs, advises students and parents on financial aid policies, and contributes to documenting loan

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND two years administrative support experience.
• Detail oriented.
• Comfortable in a fast paced, highly computerized environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High degree of experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
• Data Entry Experience.

Responsibilities

• Process alternative loans and Direct PLUS Loans including origination, transmittal, disbursement & adjustment of loan funds.
• Determine academic year eligibility; decisions around eligibility are typically non-routine and require understanding of federal regulations and office policy.
• Review prior loan history to determine aggregate amounts borrowed on-line through NSLDS.
• Responsible for loan disbursement processes that post funds to student accounts.
• Resolve problems with certification or disbursement and recommend procedural changes.
• Ensure electronic transmission and receipt of loan data through web-based systems.
• Work with lenders and disbursing agents to ensure timely processing; initiate corrections and adjustments to loan records.
• Process all paper checks from lenders for alternative loans.
• Maintain documentation of loan policies and procedures with the Assistant Director for Loans.
• Handle all email/letter communications to students and parents after loans are processed.
• Support over award processing for appropriate student aid based on cost of attendance or need.
• Perform financial aid award adjustments for December graduates.
• Assist with administration of FAME programs and related data transmission.
• Advise students and parents in person or via phone/email on financial aid regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Director or Assistant Director of Student Financial Services.
