Job summary

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor to advise students and families on aid eligibility and awards. The role includes in-person, email, and phone counseling, and delivering financial aid presentations across campus and at off-campus events.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, you will ensure timely processing, maintain positive inter-department relations, and handle complex student inquiries with professional judgment.

Qualifications

• Education: four-year college degree in behavioral sciences, public or business administration or related field.
• Experience: two years of professional student services experience or related field; master’s may substitute for one year.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate information from financial aid applicants to determine eligibility and explain the award cycle.
• Provide counseling to prospective, current, and alumni students and families via email, phone, and in-person appointments.
• Develop and conduct financial aid presentations for individuals and groups throughout the year, including weekends.
• Coordinate with on-campus departments to ensure timely, accurate financial aid processing.
